Re: SteelSeries 5xB Headset
Well, my current thinking is that I could get the 5xB's now, the 5.8 mix amp "soon" and if the need arises later on I could get a pair of a40's and hand these down to my kids. But basically, I am dying to get a gaming headset and these are very affordable.

Well, the mixamp is about $129.00 so it might be an expensive solution for you.

If the need does arise, there are much better headsets than the A40's, the mixamp is where the quality is.

This is true. I guess I just liked the overall package in general. Plus it saved you about $50 to buy them packaged together. And I do like some of the features (faceplates, removable mic etc...) but for sound quality there are better headsets out there. I hear the Sennheiser PC360 are pretty sweet.

I've heard mixed reviews. Not really sure they're worth the money.

I like my senn HD555's, their quality is about the same as astros. Not sure why you'd need anything better as I use mine for music recording also.

No Mic, I bought them for lans. For a while I had audio going through tv with a broken xbox mic taped on lol. Then I just bought turtle beach's because their sound pickup is ridiculous. It always feels unfair when you can hear someone hit a lift crossmap.

Re: SteelSeries 5xB Headset
I almost pulled the trigger on the 5xB's yesterday. I can get them from Amazon for $65.00 after an applied Amazon credit so it seems pretty attractive. But I decided to sleep on it and wait for payday. Think I am going to do it this Friday (or something similar).
Anything else I should consider in the $60-$90 range? (Specifically something you have actually owned and can recommend as Epic and OC recommend the 5xBs')

Re: SteelSeries 5xB Headset
Anyone look into the Astro A30's? I sort of dismissed them due to the fact that a.) They are cheaper than the A40's and b.) They are labeled A30, not A50. But in looking today, in many ways they seem much better than the 40's and are less expensive. Anyone here anything about them? Good or bad?

Re: SteelSeries 5xB Headset
Thanks Miller. the more I look the more I like the A30's with the 5.8 mixamp. Now I just have to decide to spend $250.00 with shipping or $75.00 with shipping for the 5xB's.

Yeah, the A30's are the upgrade of the A40's and are supposedly better...i'm just not sure I like the style of them.

Re: SteelSeries 5xB Headset
Sorry to sort of hijack this thread but after a lot of thinking I finally pulled the trigger on some A30's with the Wireless 5.8 Mixamp from Astro. Should be here in about a week. I'll let you guys know what I think.
EDIT: Got the black ones...

Re: SteelSeries 5xB Headset
