Music...what are you listening to?
Interseptor and I have been talking music lately so I thought I would post a music thread.
What have you been listening to? If you hear of anything worth checking out...post here.
Remember...music is art...everyone has different tastes so keep it clean.
What I've been listening to lately:
Kings of Leon
Tom Petty (Live Anthology)...Live Music Is Better
Neil Young...always
Danny Barnes new CD (Pizza Box) www.dannybarnes.com/
J.J Cale
John Hiatt new CD (Open Road)
Modest Mouse
Morphine
The Feelies
Peter Wolf's new CD (Midnight Souvenirs)
Notable Tracks and Info: "Melinda" on Tom Petty's Live Anthology...unbelievable piano solo by Benmont Tench and a great song about Jesse James true love Melinda (even though he never mentions his name).
Danny Barnes is a Banjo Player who formed a band called the "Bad Livers"....don't worry this is not Bluegrass...Barnes has played w/ Dave Mathews.... He has also worked with Lyle Lovett, Butthole Surfers, Dead Kennedys, Leftover Salmon,Yonder Mountain String Band and Bill Frissel (another Favorite of mine).
Peter Wolf (front man for the J. Geils Band) This CD gets 4 stars
Morphine is a 3 piece band with....get ready...Bass, Drums and Saxaphone...that's it...listen, enjoy.
JJ Cale has written songs for everyone....Cocaine, Tulsa Time, I know a little....he's Eric Claptons mentor and best friend
I've been listening to a lot more....this is all I can think of right now.

Re: Music...what are you listening to?
Dang Giraffe...a lot of old school listed. Nice to see.
I forgot one important NEW find for me: Ryan Bingham
I saw him on "Austin City Limits" on PBS. I tuned in to see the
"Drive By Truckers" (another great band) and Ryan Bingham came on after.
Come to find out....he recorded a couple songs for the movie "Crazy Heart" including the Theme song for the movie and wound up winning an Oscar for "Best Song in a Movie"....really cool

I have not checked out their album yet but the songs Too Fake and Song Away are both really good. Both play on Alt Nation (Sirius channel 21) along with a lot of the other bands I listed. It's a great place to hear new Alt music before it hits the main stream. So is Sirius XM U (good Indie station)

Re: Music...what are you listening to?
I've mostly been listening to NPR and ESPN Radio in the car for the past couple years. Before soccer games I try to find something up tempo to listen to.
A couple groovy musicians:
Ben Harper and Jack Johnson
And I love Red Dirt music:
Mike Hosty or the Hosty Duo
Red Eye Gravy
Jason Boland and the Stragglers
Red Dirt Rangers
the late great Bob Childers
Jimmy LaFave
Cross Canadian Ragweed
Stoney LaRue
Arlo Guthrie
Mike McClure Band
The Great Divide
the list goes on... I'll hear some of these Memorial Day weekend at Diamond Head and hope to catch most of the others at the Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah.

Re: Music...what are you listening to?
I've been DL'ing a ton of new music with the Zune pass, and have found some good stuff. I'll have to give my endorsement to Cage the Elephant and Kings of Leon as well, really cool stuff.
I've been in a metal mood I guess you could say,
The new Drowning Pool is great, and what I’ve been listening to the most.
Airborne is really cool too, and pretty much like old school AC/DC, and has been seeing a lot of time in my play lists.
Also, the new Godsmack and Sevendust are very good. The new Deftones and Bullet for my Valentine are OK too, but not as good as the others.
I like live music, and even live albums (the trick to live albums is you have to listen to them LOUD!) and I’ve been playing the live Gun’s and Roses album a bunch. It’s a good reminiscing album for me, and always is a good play. Also the new Alice in Chains is really good, with the same sound even with a new singer.
Also, since the superbowl I’ve been on a Who kick, and been listening to them quite a bit for my “classic” fix.
I definitely recommend the new Drowning Pool, Cage the Elephant, and Airborne. Also the new Godsmack and Sevendust if you are into that type of music.

Here is a band you have probably never heard of the Plainfield Project. You can find them on my space and they recently released their first album you can find it on iTunes. It's kinda reggea funk

I'm not normally into crazy metal like this... but ever since i heard it in Madden 09... just love this song... can't even picture what the drums would look like on Rock Band... you prolly need 3 pedals, lawl

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "Live From The Middle East" i don't think studio albums do them enough justice
