Re: Need some APFT tips
There is not much you can do to improve your run time besides running, same goes for pushups (learned that the hard way.) Just run every day, push yourself until you puke, and monitor your time.
Work on pacing yourself, utilizing a good stride, and breathing techniques. If you mix in some 60-120's or intervals, some kind of sprinting that should be helpful in improving cardiovascular endurance.
Let me know.
It's doable, I dropped from 16:45 to 12:28 in a few weeks.
What kills you more in the run - breathing and overall fatigue, or leg muscle failure?

When I ran everyday I would run the same route and not sprint until the end. every couple of days I would start sprinting sooner and sooner before you know it your time will drop. Keep track of your times and set goals for yourself.

Also when you run remember to keep good posture and control your breathing.. You will find a place where the running will actually feel good... Lean back and step it out

Re: Need some APFT tips
The first rule in beginning running is to “do no harm.”
Don’t try intervals; don’t try serious hills and stop when it hurts.
Take it
slow, increase your mileage a bit each week and you’ll to great on the APFT.
15:35 is good to shoot for in your age group but by regulation you are given 15:54 for 17-21.
I have to take one on Thursday but being that I am 28 I get a lot more room for error.

I work with civilians so you find yourself slacking sometimes but yes every 6 months you have to meet the standards which are not hard by any means. I think the lowest score I have gotten in 8 years is about a 250.
