Destiny Alpha this Weekend...

For those paying attention to the Sony presser, PS4 owners will have a chance to play an Alpha build this weekend.  Couple of things here... 

First, they made it sound like ALL PS4 users would get to play.  This is not the case.  You must have PS+ and you have to sign up for a chance to get an invite.  I just wanted to clarify for those of us out there that are interested.  Fortunately, all of us here are PS+ users so that part is all good.  To register head over here - www.greatnessawaits.com/destiny - Put in your PSN ID and wait for a message online/email to the registered account.

I have registered and now patiently await my code on Thursday.  I'll let you know if I get in or not.

I'm still in the air about my Gamestop pre-order (did it online).  I never received any code or anything and I've called them and they said that at some point the codes will be emailed out to people that pre-ordered online.  Maybe that's just a Gamestop thing because I swear I've seen people that have ordered online that have gotten codes already...or maybe I'm just wrong.

Can confirm, pre-ordered at Amazon, received code within the week. For the most part I've stopped going to Gamestop in favor of digital. 

Not having to change discs for every game is godlike.

I hear that.  Only reason I pre-ordered it was for the code.  Fully plan on cancelling.  Guess I should have done it through Amazon instead.

And I'm sure you guys realize this is for the Alpha the weekend, not the Beta in July, right?

Yeah, totally.  Just made me think about the beta and my "issue" with Gamestop.  Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread, lol.

Apperantly not.  No Pre-Order required but you still have to register, and be selected.  Register with your PSN ID at the link in the original post.

Registered, we'll see how that goes.

I'm not as impressed now after watching him. Looks very WOW'ish. I'm on the fence about this on now, while as before I was all for it.

Played with Kenny tonight for a few hours. Freakin EPIC.

Oh d@mn.  I was on the fence with this one, sounds like I might have to pick it up.  I'll see how the game plays.  At least it is t out until like October, right?

September 9th if I'm not mistaken, and yes I can not wait for the full release.

I know that was a terribly undescriptive first impression but it's accurate.  This game is amazing from what I sampled so far and frankly impressive for an Alpha too.  I was expecting some glaring bugs but I never ran into anything worth reporting. And Kenny and I tested the limits of the map at time lol.  Hell half the time was just screwing around to see where we could get to.

Gameplay is smooth and responsive.  It has a bit of a Halo feel I suppose but to me it actually felt like it's own game.  Granted the Halo influences are there but mostly in the music, art direction and some of the power abilities but from a gameplay perspective it felt like it's own game.  Shooting and exploring felt solid and well balanced.  

Graphics?  Amazing.  This is a beautifully crafted word and impressive for it's size and scope.  The world has it's boundaries and some of it was locked off for the Alpha but what I explored last night was impressive.  Even the little corners of the map were fun to visit and explore.  And visiting new places often lead to side missions we would pick up as we went. 

After we did the main mission we just wondered around picking up new missions.  One lead to another and to another.  The map just sort of kept going and everything felt very fluid.  Really we only stopped to head to the tower and get some new, more powerful gear (we had a habit of picking fights with enemies much higher rank than we were lol).  By that time I looked at my watch and it was already midnight.

Still have to try out Strikes and PvP.  I'll update you guys again later.  Feel free to ask any questions.
