I was in an Apple store today playing with an ipad for about an hour or so. I would so buy one if I had the $$$ but I am saving for a new iphone and the gathering.

What isn't my fav feature...lol...I'm really liking the iWork suite. I'm using pages for my project and departmental notes and documents, and I plan to use Keynote for the 1 to 2 presentations I give per month.

My biggest thing is the nice subtleties that add the look and feel of each app. So, my fav apps:

iWork Suite - works well for productivity. Needs improving to make it more like the reg version.
Pentultimate - great for sketching out ideas.
Weather HD - nothing spectacular, but just really cool looking
Marvel - Just frickin' badass...'nuff said!
ABC Player - just rocks!
Netflix - rocks as well
IM+ - Nice improvements to iPhone version
News - NPR, BBC, USA Today are all nice looking apps
iBooks, looks great, but I'm still old school when it comes to book, prefer to have it in hand.

Apple has deals with universities. They should expand upon them and offer discounted iPads as part of tuition; then offer text books via the iBook store. You can highlight and bookmark passages, as well as copy text to your class notes document in Pages or the note pad. The potential for this devices is off the charts, and the only real competition they'll have is Google's tablet that might come out later this year.

Weather HD ($1.99 or $.99, I can't remember)- See J's comments above...
Marvel (Free app) - Great app and some of the comics are free as well. Rocks!
ABC Player (Free app) - See J's comments above...
News (Free apps) - NPR and USA Today Great free news apps and NPR has all of their shows uploaded very quickly
iBooks (Free app) - I never read "real" books so this is great for me
Weather Channel Max+ (Free app) - This is the real deal for weather. It's simply amazing. Very Powerfull and a huge improvment over the iPhone version. Get this app!
Pandora (Free app) - Pretty much the same as the iPhone but still awesome and correctly formatted for the iPad
IMDB (Free app) - It's IMDB... so yeah, get it.
Harbor Master HD (Free app) - Fun and very addictive game.
GodFinger (Free app) - Fun, free and also addictive.
X-Plane ($9.99) - Great flight simulator. It's amazing how powerful the iPad is.
Mirror's Edge ($12.99) - Amazing game and wonderful controls. This is how games on the iPad should look and play. It is a little on the short side but still a great game.

Cydia is still not fully configured for the device though, so be careful with what you download. Make sure you grab apps that are iPad-approved

Finally got my apple portfolio cover today. It's an epic win. Highly recommended for anyone with an iPad.

That's the cover I have. It's perfect for typing which was a huge factor for me when selecting a cover.

Yeah, it's gonna be embarrassing at the gathering though, when your iPads both turn up wearing the same outfit.
