I like it..just can't find a reason to buy another.
I think they are going after the "kindle" market with this one.

My thoughts too. It's like a little more expensive Kindle Fire with a slightly larger screen and some more features. Still can't justify a tablet of any type.

Re: New iPad Mini
I ordered one today. After several glorious years with my 1st gen iPad it was finally time for an upgrade. I struggled over deciding between the newest 4th gen and the mini. In the end I decided on the mini due to the reduced price and smaller size.
I am not really sure if I will like the smaller size for everything but I find myself reading more and more and my full size iPad is just a little larger than I would like for reading. I have also recently played with the Nexus 7 and like the smaller size more than I thought I would.
So here goes. I hope I like it. It should be here later this week. I'll post up some impressions once I run it head to head with my original iPad and let you guys know what I think.

Re: New iPad Mini
I am debating on buying the mini for the same reasons lol. I just got rid of my first gen iPad as well. The price is the greatest factor that I see about the iPad mini.
Re: New iPad Mini
It was a big deciding factor for me too. I was prepared to spend $500+ on a 4th gen iPad but the more I looked the more I gravitated to the mini. In the end I was able to get a 32g mini w/ smart cover and taxes for $500 even. That's pretty sweet.
Still not 100% sure on the size. For somethings it's going to be great but I wonder if I will miss the larger size for other things. It should be a fun little experiment to see how I adapt to a smaller size after 3+ years with the original. I still use my original iPad every day so I am very familiar with it. I'll let you guys know my findings,

Re: New iPad Mini
good luck 'Septor. Never pulled the trigger myself.
Like I said before, can't find a reason to ditch the full-sized ipad.
Should give to my daughter but she's got too much crap as it is iphone, ipod touch, Kindle Fire HD, mac book pro, etc. etc. Just way more than enough already.

Well, for me, it is an iPad replacement not just a whim. My 1st gen iPad is outdated and no longer able to get the newest apps. Had to buy a new one and decided to try the new mini version. Could end up being a huge mistake and I'll be back buying a 4th gen. Time will tell.

Re: New iPad Mini
Ok, so I have had the iPad mini for a while now and I am ready to report. I freakin love this thing! I was a little unsure about the size going in. I always felt the normal iPad seemed to be the perfect size. Now I am not so sure.
So first off is the size and weight of the thing. It's small and sexy to hold. It's thin, light and sleek. It's a joy to hold and play with. Mostly due to both the reduced size and weight. It's just more comfortable to hold. It's also bigger than the other 7" tablets on the market. After spreading some serious time with it, I can say that it is just about perfect for me.
Also, as a result of the reduction in size and weight, it is better for EVERY single game I tried. Every one of them is better in the smaller form factor of the mini. Especially any kind of adventure/shooter game that requires you to use your thumbs to move the character. The smaller size/weight makes it much easier to maneuver and hold for extended periods. The size also lends itself to carrying around better. I used to carry my full size iPad everywhere I went but it is so much easier and convenient now. It fits almost anywhere with ease.
It's also much cheaper than the normal full size version. It will save you $170 over the compatible full size model. I got the 32g version and a cover for less than the full size 16g version.
Down Side? Well, the screen is not a retina display. That is the biggest downfall in my opinion. Now the screen is good, don't get me wrong. In fact, coming up from my 1st gen iPad it's a big improvement. But compared to the current full size iPad with retina display it is a little less impressive.
The size could also be a problem for some people. A I stated, it's just about perfect for me. But my hands and fingers are somewhat slender. And the reduced size has never been a problem for me. But if you had big ogre hands it could be a problem I suppose.
Also, the reduced size creates a higher resolution and people with vision problems might have a problem with the smaller text etc. Granted you can pinch and zoom but for people hard of seeing, the large version would probably be better.
What else do you lose besides the retina display? You get the A5 chipset instead of the newer, faster A6X chipset. The newer chip is faster no doubt but I have had no problem running anything so far. I have tested some pretty serious games too... Horn, Balder's Gate, Bastion, Walking Dead, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, X-Plane. Everything plays flawlessly and looks great.
Conclusion? It's an amazing piece of tech and better for me in every way over the original iPad. I will probably buy the next version as soon as it comes out, assuming it has the retina display. I love this thing!
PS I typed the whole thing on my iPad mini

Re: New iPad Mini
Question: What did you do with the 1st Gen iPad?
I'm wondering what I can do with mine if/when I buy the mini.
donate it?

Re: New iPad Mini
Mine was handed down to my kids (ages 12 and 8 ). They were never allowed to play with it previously so it's all good.
You can sell them for a good bit of money too. Places that buy iPhones also buy iPads. You send them you iPad and they send you a check. For example, I could get $110.00 for my iPad at Gazelle . com. That would actually make the mini only $219.00 with trade-in. Impressive. And you can get more depending on which model you have.

@Interseptor - You can get Balder's Gate for the iPad? I played the sh*t out of that on the PC.
@Klown - I'm pretty sure that GameStop buys tablets too.

Really starts to make you feel old when they start releasing 20th anniversary editions of things you used to really be into.
