Anime Discussion
So I have recently started watching anime on a regular basis. Xpert and I have talked about it here and there but I wad curious if anyone else is as much of a nerd as I am. I searched and didn't find any other topics on this so I thought I would start one. What are your favorites and what are you currently watching?
I am in the middle of Naruto and Soul Eater which are both pretty good, but tonight I started Attack on Titan and holy sh1t that first episode was so good.

Re: Anime Discussion
I'm currently going through Dragon Ball Z and keeping up with One Piece. Was keeping up with Naruto Shippuden, but I got really tired of the 10 filler episodes that took place after every 5 episodes of the main plot line. One Piece has almost zero filler episodes, so I find that I enjoy that a lot more.

Re: Anime Discussion
I have seen many anime. I will give you some good suggestions but my genre is the same pretty much when i watch them i look for some kind of power. I'm not big on watching people with swords or just karate. I need a CHI or KI or a power that they use. My top ones go like this, in no particular order.:
Dragon Ball Z (if you watch KI, it kills about 8 hours of watch time with all the extra episodes and lengthy monologues)
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (brotherhood is the KI of DBZ, it cuts out the useless filler episodes)
Needless
Darker Than Black
Kaze No Stigma
Yu Yu Hakusho
Demon King Daimao
Chrome Shelled Regios
I've never seen them but everyone says to watch:
Naruto
Inyuasha (don't know spelling)
and Bleach

Re: Anime Discussion
I've probably watched about as much anime as anyone. I won't even bother with a list as it would take too long. Here are some highlights I suggest to everyone that is fairly new:
Hunter X Hunter 2011 - There is an old one and a new one. The new old one was good, but new one has WAY better animation and a much longer plot. Also, it's ongoing. Best show out right now IMO.
Attack on Titan - Cool new anime, humanity on brink of extinction.
Cowboy Bebop - Old but good, space bounty hunters. It's fun and casual (until the end)
Kuroko's Basketball - Sports anime are actually awesome. Even if you don't play sports, watch this.
Prince of Tennis - Watch the original first, still very good.
Trigun - Random guy turns out to be a superhuman bad@ss.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (spectacular, the original was also very good - just this one is better. The plot is the same until about 20 eps in)
Death Note (season 1) - A spectacular, albeit unusual anime. Basic plot is 2 Geniuses engage in a battle of wits + awesome.
Fairy Tail - This continually gets better. It has some filler, but if you can get through it this has great fight scenes.
.hack//sign - A great anime, kid gets trapped in a video game
Sword Art Online - The first season is also great. A totally different take on video games + anime. You will like this.
Fate/Zero - Magic tournament for the Holy Grail. Each participant gets a relic and summons a hero from the past (Gilgamesh, Alexander the Great, etc)
Ghost in the Shell - Watch these series. They are a great piece of animation and narrative on future technology.
G Gundam - This is a good one. There is a lot of gundam out there, G Gundam is the good one.
Zoids: New Century Zero - This is the good zoids. Very cool tournament style plot.
Samurai Champloo - A GREAT anime. Mixes Meiji/Edo period lifestyle without modern hip-hop music. GREAT animation, cool story. Not too long.
Black Lagoon - Cool Smuggling/Gang fighting anime.
Gungrave - This is awesome. Another gangster anime, but it adds in cool sci-fi elements.
For the (big) ones:
Dragonball Z Kai - A good way to know about DBZ, without watching the whole massive original 250+ episodes
One Piece - A great show. It's got some filler, they all do, but this is definitely worth a watch.
Bleach - Watch this. Or rather, watch the first story arc and see how you feel from there. The first story arc is great, so watch that at least.
Naruto - Also a good series. My advice: Struggle through this series. It's really fun at first but gets kinda long. HOWEVER, Naruto Shippuden is SPECTACULAR. But only if you watched the original. Once you get to shippuden you're in for probably the best Long series there is. Very minimal filler.
Yuyu Hakusho - Interesting show, I watched it for the "dark tournament"
Inuyasha - Don't bother, boring.

I have watched FMA just not brotherhood. I really liked that. And Death Note was amazing. Light Yagami is one of my favorite characters ever. But thanks for some more suggestions. I added a few of those to my Hulu queue.

I bolded the ones that are just great series and everyone will like. I enjoyed the others as-well, but I could see how some people might not like FLCLS7 Interseptor wrote:Atrums list is solid. Some of my favorites are:

You... you want a dub? I'm not sure, but Bleachget would be my best guess. It plays on Cartoon Network regularly, maybe their site?

Re: Anime Discussion
Well, since it is normally in japanese, wouldn't the english dubbed version be a voice over in english of the translation or am i misinterpreting the definition of dubbed.

Re: Anime Discussion
I agree with all series mention so far ( at least the ones that I've watched) as well as adding a few below:
S-Cry-Ed
Witch Hunter Robin
A Certain Magical Index (2 seasons so far)
A Certain Scientific Railgun ( 2nd season airing currently)
Steins;Gate
Rurouni Kenshin (the best parts being the 2nd arc)
Read or Die ( both the OVA and TV series)
Outlaw Star ( similar to Cowboy Bebop)
Durarara ( slightly confusing in the beginning with how they set up the episodes)
Well I think I'll need to stop before I get out of hand, if you need more info on any of these series or other questions just ask.

Re: Anime Discussion
Dub is when english voices are recorded over the originals.
Subbed (subtitled) is when they use the original voices and put the translation at the bottom. In general, subbed have WAY better voice actors and are much more enjoyable. Long ago I watched dubbed, but there are only a few series where the english voice actors are anywhere near as good.

Re: Anime Discussion
I used to think watching sub was stupid, but after watching it... I can see why a lot of people prefer sub over dub. So far, the only anime that I prefer to watch dubbed is Dragon Ball. Most of the time, english voice actors sound lame imo.

Re: Anime Discussion
I thought that having to read the whole time was stupid. I didn't really get into until I started watching Bleach, which was all on Hulu but in Japanese. I figured I'd give it a shot. I watched a few episodes subbed and I went to another site to watch a few dubbed. And I just could stand the dubbed voice acting. Same with Naruto. Some dubbed characters had me wondering 'why the f#ck do they sound like that?' But after watching hundreds of subbed episodes, reading and being able to watch everything unfold just comes naturally. lol

Yea xpert talked me into sub and I don't think I could go back. DBZ is dub is good. I also enjoyed dubbed FMA, but other then that i have enjoyed my subed anime.
atrum I guess I will have to check out brotherhood now. I really enjoyed FMA so much that I just figured brotherhood wouldn't be nearly as good to me. Kind of like how I can't really get into DBZ Kai.

Re: Anime Discussion
I loved FMA, then I found out about Brotherhood and gave it a chance. Much better. What happened is the anime (FMA) caught up to the manga. So they made up the plot to finish it (read parallel dimensions, nazi's, etc).
FMA: Brotherhood was them going back and doing it how it was originally written to be. Trust me, it's MUCH better. Which is saying something as the original was awesome.
Side note: Hunter X Hunter is definitely what I would recommend to watch next.
