Time to build a gaming PC - FINALLY

It has been long overdue, I haven't built a PC in 5 yrs or so.... I just ordered the parts, let me know what you guys think

In my opinion, I don't think you need a computer that powerful.

IMO 16 GB ram is a bit overkill for the system. 8 GB is all you need, beyond that you wouldn't notice any performance change.

I love my Saitek Eclipse II keyboard. Very solid and lasts forever.

Is there a reason you use a wireless mouse? If not just keep an eye on sites like LogicBuy.com Every few weeks a Razer mouse pops up there for around $20

The way I see it, is that computer parts usually seem to start failing after 3-5 years. And I don't know what you plan to run on that comp... but there sure as hell isn't going to be any games for awhile that will have requirements that will come close to matching your system. I only spent around $700 for my gaming comp and it is able to run a game like Skyrim very well with high graphic settings. I make sure to clean it often and even then I know that I'll probably end up having to get another one in four years because the parts don't last forever.

RAM is cheap as f#ck, there is no reason NOT to have 16GB and it is all usable. I fully intend on having 32gb in my rebuild later on this year.

Everything looks pretty decent tbh, I'd say it was a nice mid-high end PC and it's undoubtedly going to be enough to keep you happy for a fair few years.

That said, if you intend on getting 3-5 years worth of good use out of it, DO NOT overclock it needlessly. OCing is fine if it gets your framerates from an jerky framerate to a playable one BUT don't do it just for e-penis. Heat is what will eventually kill your components, so if you can manage on stock or underclocked settings, then do that.

Right now, I'm running a 0.2GHz Underclock with the GPU cranked as far down as it'll go and it runs just fine for what I need.

Also, SSD advice. If you already know this, then skip this section.... SSD's have a limited number of time's they can be written to before they lose that ability. You can read from them near-infinity time, they're fine for that, just don't go putting short term stuff on there. You'll want your OS, any resource intensive software stuff (a la Photoshop) and then use the rest for games that you'll play often. Everything else will be just fine on a normal S-ATA....especially when you have plenty of RAM.

P.S. - Get some decent aftermarket thermal paste for that heatsink. $9 for 4-5 degrees less heat is a bargain.

P.S.S - I am glad you've chosen to build it yourself. No doubt you've already had a fair bit of enjoyment out of researching and choosing the parts, ordering, etc. Now you get the fun of building it and using it. Yes, installing Windows and whatnot sucks balls but whilst you're doing that just think about how much money you've saved... and what new mouse or keyboard you want to buy after returning those two to Amazon

under stress normal is 38c and on a hot day 41c (in the summer time)

keep in mind in the summer 41(105f)c is the normal temp outside

but 3.7 is the max ill go as even at stock speed my cpu is over kill for most thing..

i normally leave my oc at 3.5ghz


but i do agree with epic still.. if there is no need then dont .. my cpu max i can get it to run fine is 4.2ghz but i will never leave it there! only did it to shut up my brother and spanked his i7

Yah, mine runs at about 22c but heat is heat. wear'n'tear. Motherboards are pretty good at dropping the performance for you automatically anyway, so make sure you enable those features Glock, then yit'll last longer and you'll have power on tap.

Cool Glock, hope you post up some awesome pics of the building process and finished result. Also I'm not sure of the overall benefit of a amazon prime account but newegg.com gives great deals for PC components.

Just depends on what you do. For me 16 GB or 32 GB will help because my SMALL art files are around 7000/7000px. Photoshop snacks on ram all day so it helps.
Doing more small scale or basic stuff like signatures, playing games, etc. Past 8GB no one is going to see any difference at all. Nice to have more incase you suddenly decide to do that stuff, definitely not necessary.

Well, if you play around with your settings, you can quite easily make use of 8gb+. My Chrome is currently using 2.5gb of memory (only 3 tabs open) and pre-loading the f#ck out of everything. Throw in an HD video, a virus scan, a software install and a piece of photo editing software, all of which could quite commonly used at once, and you could easily have make use of 16gb, perhaps not to the fullest extent but definitely moreso than 8gb.

Then, take somebody like me, who can easily have the following open, had I the right system resources -

A Linux Virtual Machine (Multiple browsers open)
A Mac Virtual Machine (Multiple browsers, Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop)
An FTP
An instance of Netbeans, complete with plug-ins.
Visual Studio with ReSharper and many, many other plug ins, a multi-project solution, running a live .NET site.
SQL Server
SSIS
Multiple Windows browsers (LOTS of tabs).
Large Subversion commits/merges and checkouts.
Large PDFs.
OneNote
Visio
Word
MS Outlook
Streaming flash media.
Skype
MSN Messenger
Cisco Softphone

All of which, could be nested inside another virtual machine....to be quite honest, I may even look at 64gb if I can find a performance Mobo that will support it.
