Getting a New Phone.... thoughts? Empty Getting a New Phone.... thoughts?

Post by S7 Wiggles1778 Sat Oct 08, 2011 2:41 am

Droid Bionic? iPhone 4? 4s? Other? What the hell should I do?
(Verizon Network by the way)

What I've been told so far...
"The Bionic is REDIC good and fast... but a crappy battery..."
"I have a Droid, but would go iPhone next time instead..."

Now I have been reading a lot on phones... and I just dont know what to believe...

Also... data plan... how much does the average person (or you) actually use a month?
2GB v. 5GB
$30 v. $50

I haven't bought a new phone in like 4 years... and looking to get into a smartphone (finally)

yep this is my phone from like 1987

My wife and I have Verizon and Droids right now and we'll probably go to iphones at the end of the month when we can upgrade ( the 4s). I use the web a ton on my phone (posting now from it), run social networking and fantasy football from it, and am constantly downloading/upgrading/using apps so I burn a lot of MB. I have 7 days left on this billing cycle and have used .333 GB of data. I average probably 1-2 GB a month but I'm on the old unlimited data for $29.99/mo. I get crap battery life and have issues with my phone glitching and having to wait like 30 sec to load the icons on the home screen. That's my imput for now. We've had the phones for like 18 months (I think).

iPhone 4S

I've never been over a GB of data, so 2GB should be fine.

I went to the darkside (iPhone) a few years ago. I absolutely love it, I would choose the iPhone 4 or 4s.

lol
Iphone is definatly a win and the 4s is the best new phone from apple.
The Droids are nice phones so really it is more of a personal preference.

I don't know that I've ever gotten to 1GB for data on my iphone. Then again I'm usually connected to wifi of some sort.

I'm sure you'd be happy with the iphone, haven't had much experience with the new droid but there are 4-5 guys I work with that love them.

That's just it to Atrum some people love the iPhone some love the Droids. You just have to figure out what you personally like.

iPhone has a much more stable platform, go with it, everything about it is better. Why do you think everybody trying to beat their products. I haven't seen a worthy contender yet!

I've heard this too and that that is why there's less viruses or malware on the phones. Also, there's more strict guidelines for iphone apps which make them more stable and you tend to have to pay for them.

Android has a ton of free apps that are strapped with ads and they have a tendency to force close (my experience). Androids also have more capability for customizations (ringtones, backgrounds, etc) without having to jailbreak your phone.

Think of it this way. Your on verizon. They have LTE ready phones. 4S isnt 4g on verizon. Youll be on the 3g network. If you want a phone that will last you and be good for you till your next upgrade I would say go with the bionic. You get the LTE and a next generation phone that will last you 2 years at least more if you dont upgrade still. The 4s isn't.

iOs is stable and easy to use. Android is customizable and more open for use to do what ever the hell you want with it with out jailbreaking it.

Apple makes good products dont get me wrong. Its just the 4s isnt the answer when your on verizon and they have lte ready phones with an lte network.

My one issue with the iPhone is how often it slows down/crashes and how often apps crash. I hear a lot if talk about how stable it is but even my old blackberries had less crashes. It's not frequent enough to be a pain, and worst case is usually a quick reboot but I probably would not call it 'very stable'.

@ Maverick yeah the Bionic may be a 4g phone but unless you live in a area were you can stay connected to the 4g network then you'll be on 3g as well

Mine rarely ever crashes and the few time it has, it has 'died gracefully' as us programmers would put it.

My 3GS very very rarely crashes or slows down, and it is jailbroken with custom skins for EVERYTHING on the screen. Not to mention all of the background apps I have running from Cydia.

My iPhone pretty much never crashes. The only problem I have had has been very minor and "graceful" as Epic put it. Very rarely when I launch a program it will automatically close. Usually I just have to click the icon again and it works smoothly. And again, this is very rare. It is VERY stable in my experience.

I would say go all the with the 4s if you are on at&t then buy the one that is factory unlocked so once the 5 comes out this coming summer you can upgrade sell your old one on ebay and only pay about $90 buck for a brand new one.

I have been doing that and it works out great getting a new phone every 6 months to a year.

I was just giving my experience with my 4g and my wife's 4g. Most of the crashes probably are the apps fault and as I said they aren't common enough to be annoying, I just like to remind people it's not some Jesus-machine that never has issues.

Also iPhones are pro at dropping calls. Completely full bars, calls still drop for no reason.

Mine NEVER has. Sure, I've pressed 'end call' by accident once or twice but I've never had a dropped call whilst I've had signal.

Do you have the iPhone 4? Mine drops called, I have 5-6 friends with the same phone, on different networks and they've had the same issue.
