XP service pack 3
Had some trouble this weekend....Miller Knows...he helped me with one of them. OK...here's what's happening.
I wanted to download the Zune software. It said I needed the service pack 3. I tried to download it and all I get is "access denied". Turned my anti virus off...still "access denied". Any suggestions? I really want to get a Zune but what's the point if I can't download the software

Just run windows updates until there are none left. There are usually some others that have to be in place or SP3 will get some weird errors.

Yeah...ran the automatic updates....still get the error. Looked up some support stuff and it seems many are having problems.

I have no idea how to do all this stuff....may have to get someone to the house to fix it for me...don't know...very frustrating that they would make it so hard

Yeah I'd say 90% of the time the updates go through with no problems at all. Unfortunately there's no simple "disable this and click this" solution when updates aren't running. If you're going to take it in somewhere just specify it's only the updates that won't run, no virus or anything, and it should be fairly cheap. Just find a place that does computer repairs and cleanup and if the employee seems cool should be under $50 for sure.

Charles, here is the Knowledge Base entry on your issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377
I can give you a hand with it if you like... I can use TeamViewer to remote into your system and should be able to fix the issue rather than having you spend cash...
Let me know if ya wanna do this... we'll set up a time and date and do it if ya want
After hearing what you have done so far... it definitely sounds like a registry permissions issue
