Re: xbox 720?
I see no reason a new system with so many good games coming out and kinect just being released. If they release a new system it better be backwards compatible.
Re: xbox 720?
In the past it's been about 5 years between consoles so it is getting to be that time. I wouldn't mind seeing a new xbox come out with blu-ray, everything the new elites have, and superior insides.

Re: xbox 720?
I am ok with a new box whenever. Next year at the earliest and it will probably be 2013. Everyone knows they are working on it so this really isn't news to me. Plus you have to keep in mind that the 360 is almost 6 years old now. A new one is inevitable. My guess is that they will officially unveil it next year and start selling it in 2013.
As for right now, the games are good and graphics and OK. But we are getting to the point where consoles are holding back the industry in terms of graphics. New, better and faster hardware is going to have to happen before too long.

Re: xbox 720?
The LinkedIn ads that have caused such a stir suggest that any next-gen Xbox is firmly in the concept stage. Besides, Microsoft has said publically that the Xbox 360 will have (at least) a 10-year life lifespan to match the PS3. That puts an Xbox 720 launch into 2015…

Well, that's not exactly true. Yes they said it would have a 10 year life span which is true but that does not mean that the next xbox will be released in 2015. It means they will support the 360 for 10 years. The PS2 had a 10 year life span but the PS3 was brought out after only 6 of those years. During the next 4 or so years the PS2 was and to some degree still is supported but Sony did not wait 10 years to release the new one. Neither will Microsoft. The same thing will happen here with the Xbox. The neXtbox will come out relatively soon but the 360 will still get support during the transition.

Re: xbox 720?
I'll quote on of my older posts-
With the failure of the playstation network, MS has probably bought them more time for the next gen box. I wouldn't be surprised to see something next holiday, but most definately by 2013.

The Slim is not a new Xbox- it’s the same tech in a new package to revitalize sales and cut costs. You know MS has to be working on the next gen, and will not like the idea of being the least powerful system out there, as they have never been that before. With the slim and kinect out last year, I would think they milk it this year and release a new system for the 2012 holiday. Make it backwards compatible, support the Kinect so you don’t need a new sensor, and even make it support the same Hard Drive the current slim uses, so you can buy the “arcade” version of the new Xbox for less $$$, and easily transfer your stuff over. That would give them a good starting price, as well as keep up sales of the current 360 slim as it doesn’t completely become “obsolete”. BluRay drives are cheap now, so you can throw one of those in now as well. Disk based media with optional downloads is still going to be a bigger market than Dl only or cloud gaming. At $60 a pop, kids are going to be getting games as gifts more than purchasing online, and not everyone has the bandwidth (or HD space) to continually DL. Heck, in the rural areas it isn’t even an option for some people unless tethered to a mobile device. If I was MS I would also add a simple browser and app store, and fully integrate it with Windows mobile to boost both brands. If they learned anything from the Zune and Windows Mobile, it is being late to the party = fail. I would jump on it soon as possible while they hold market share, and not let Nintendo catch up and Sony improve their UI.

I don't think we will ever see an xbox with a blu-ray, sony has all they copyrights to blu ray, plus to me its not really needed. cheaper hd rental and direct downloads would be nice, xbl market place needs to = itunes store, but cheaper

Re: xbox 720?
I'd like to see Blu-Ray as well. It's becoming more necessary going forward. Take a look at LA Noir, it's going to ship with 3-Disks! (only 1 blu-ray on the PS3). And I am sure Mass Effect 3 will be similar as well as more and more games. Regardless of Sony's "ownership" of Blu-Ray, the fact is that they are pretty cheap to buy now. I think it's possible we will see it in the neXtbox.

Re: xbox 720?
Well, that just means I'll have to find a sucker....er, I mean valued customer to buy my two old xbox units so I can buy a new one. At least this time I may not need one as a spare (since before my units had a tendency to die early).

Re: xbox 720?
Sony are only part of a consortium on blu-ray. If MS are gonna end up buying ~50,000,000 blu-ray units, plus all the game discs, then it's likely that MS will be granted use.

Re: xbox 720?
Yup, no company is going to say no to selling millions of units. The sales right there outweigh the competition introduced by just adding blu ray.

Re: xbox 720?
Everything that I've seen, including stuff on like G4, about the next Xbox console.
MS basically said they think the 360 should have a 10 year life cycle with a new console being introduced with a 2-3 year over lap...
so do the math and that should give you an idea of the basic plan for them

.TimeSplitters 4 in development for next Xbox and PlayStation.
Microsoft is gearing up to announce the successor to the Xbox 360 at E3 2012, and Crytek is already developing a new TimeSplitters game for the next generation of consoles, VideoGamer.com can reveal.
Specifications for the new machine have not been finalised, but Crytek is using Microsoft's DirectX 11 as the current basis for next-generation development. Tessellation, multithreaded rendering, and compute shaders are the three headlining features for DirectX 11.
The Crysis 2 developer says that Microsoft will announce the existence of a new Xbox within the next 12 months, hinting that an E3 2012 reveal is likely. Crytek believes that Microsoft will announce and launch its new machine ahead of rival Sony, though the developer is also investing resources into next-generation PlayStation development.
The information was detailed to VideoGamer.com by a high-ranking industry source at Crytek, who stated that TimeSplitters 4 is currently being demonstrated internally, is being built with CryEngine 3, and was being shown privately in video form at E3 2011
