Kings Fall Raid
Been busting my ass with Kenny and managed to hit the 290s so into the the Raid we go! We'll be running a blind raid tonight, no spoiler, no walkthroughs. I might end up streaming depending on the connection. I'll post up impressions and whatnot later. Wish us luck!

Nice. I don't know that I'll get to the raid so I'll live vicariously through videos and stuff, lol.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
No streaming last night as it was a bit sketchy with the Destiny servers but we did manage to get a good first run. Had a ton of fun and made good progress. We made it to the first major boss fight and managed to figure out what we needed to do but ran out of time as some people dropped offline early. Still it was pretty amazing and can't wait to get back in for round 2.
Can't really compare it to the other raids till we finish it out but the beginning was a whole lot of fun and good time were had by all. Definitely some cool moments early on and fun puzzles to solve give me a lot of hope for this one.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
We seemed to do ok on this run, just ended up petering out after like the second checkpoint. We had some ideas but didn't really push to hard to test them before giving up. I was only 286, so that didn't help, but I've since hit 291. Not sure if I'll try to run it again this weekend, rather I might just try to inch my gear up and knock out some more quests.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
Kenny and I went back in on Sunday and managed to beat Golgoroth as well as find a new hidden Chest. The group broke up after that but we explored all the way to the next Boss fight and looked around for a bit. Some interesting mechanics at work in the next fight for sure. Should be fun.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
Looks like our core group is headed into the Raid this Friday too (PS4 bros). Telcon just got up over 280 and will be joining us for the first time. I have yet to complete the Raid but I have experience with all the parts up to Oryx and feel pretty good about my strats.
Oryx on the other hand is still a complete mystery. Should be a fun run.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
Well, we had a good run last night. We got all the way to the end but ran out of time on Oryx. Pretty proud of our guys as they did well all along the way. Some fights were harder than others but we managed to beat them all. Good job guys!
The plan is now to head back in a Sunday and try to finish the job. Oryx is no joke. Can't wait to kill that bastard.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
Yeah, the jumping puzzles are the worst boss for me. Team can strategize on all of the other stuff, I just need to f*cking learn how to platform better.

Have you tried running with your sword and doing it in 3rd person? Might make it a bit easier.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
I might do that. Some of the guys mentioned that at the drop ship puzzle, I just need to be more patient with my jumps. I know where to go I just float too much when I need to drop and triple tap the jump button sometimes and end up basically just falling. I'm going to try doing a little parkour when running missions to work on jumping when it's not so time sensitive.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
I'm guessing any of the engrams that drop from the enemies in the raid can roll as high as 310, and not only items picked up in chests? If so, it might be worth farming the adds if you don't have a team to actually progress through the raid.

No, only raid specific drops can drop at 310 when you are less than 300. Engrams, no matter where they drop, depend completely on your light level when decrypting them. You will never get a 300+ piece of equipment from an engram unless you are 300+ on your character. If being able to farm the raid meant getting 300+ gear then you can bet EVERYBODY would be doing that, including me, lol.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
So locked behind the non-matchmaking raid only. Gotcha. I should have known that, as I read an article a week or so back that essentially said the same thing- the biggest problem with Destiny is still its biggest problem. Lol.

I know it's not ideal but the LFG sites out there really work well and make it easy. I use the100 almost exclusively and it's a joy. Like yesterday I decided I wanted to kill Oryx. I went to the100 during the day at work and found a group getting together at the time I wanted to play. Joined the group and went about my day. Got home, logged on, got an invite, beat oryx. That simple.
The100 is great cause it allows you to setup games or search for games. Usually by game time the party is full and ready to go. Super easy. Go to Public Games > Advanced Search > find whatever game looks good.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
That's still no reason far a game that pridefully boasts its social aspects has limited social tools. Even the same sort of thing from the 100 was built into the Destiny ap, with mobile alerts and the like, would be something. Using 3rd party sites to find a game surely works (and seems to work rather well). We used to do that s lot way back in the x486 days. That's regressing, not progressing.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
Yeah... I use the100 and destinylfg. Both work great.
I agree it's an interesting choice. Early on they Bungie commented they wanted to drive community participation rather than letting people just coast along for every part of the game.
I think forcing you to branch out rather than hop in a queue is part of that strategy.

I pretty much fully agree. And while I cringe at the idea of matchmaking for the Raid, I think it should be an option for those who want it. I don't think I would ever use it though. The problem with the Raid and matchmaking is partly cause you have no idea who is going to join and typically when I use matchmaking (Strikes, PvP etc...) no one EVER communicates. Being stuck in a Raid with 5 other people with no one talking and randoms dropping out cause we get stuck would make me crazy.
With LFG sites you can make requests for experienced players, require mics, Light level minimums, boss checkpoints etc... You party up before hand and everyone talks and is committed to playing for at least some amount of time.
As for Bungie making these tools available from the App? That would be ideal and should have happened. Best of both worlds.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
I just said screw it and signed up on that 100.io site and joined a raid for tomorrow night at 7. All the group leader asked for was to make sure to have good snipers and machine guns, which is what I use so we'll see how it goes. I've never been one to just randomly join people I don't know but I thought I'd give it a try. If I don't like it then I don't have to do it again.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
The one time I joined one by myself was for the Crota battle on CE. The guy who set up the group laid out which strat we were doing and everyone volunteered for set jobs. I think it took us like one attempt to figure out how everyone played and then we wrecked Crota on the second one, it was like 5-10 min to get everyone in the group and discuss the strat and then 10-15 min for the battle. All in all I was pretty pleased. Some of the randos we've picked up haven't been the best, but we usually seem to luck out.

Yeah, I have been in some really good groups and some OK groups (never been in a bad group) but overall my experience has been good. Easy of finding games and having a roster set up before hand is awesome. I hope you have a good experience.

I ended up being sherpa for a group last night. Got to Golg and dropped him down to around 10-15% a couple times before it became too late at night.

You try single pool strat yet? Super easy, effective and less to mess up. Done it both ways and once I show people how to do single pool, everyone swears by it.

Re: Kings Fall Raid
Yeah, pretty much everyone does single pool that I've seen.
My group was all pretty green to the raid, and kept over-staying rather than jumping out with 1-2 seconds left on gaze.
