PSN Servers Down After Hack

So, tried checking to see who was on with the app and didn't get anything.  Got kinda pissed because Comcast was here tinkering with my modem and I figured the problem was PS4 not connecting to the internet (usually the case when I have issues with the app).  Got even more pissed when I couldn't get my PS4 to connect to the internet after resetting my modem so I ended up Googling PSN and came across a story from about 2hrs ago about the servers being hacked and that they're down:

Guess they're using that newly gained PS+ money to add to the bottom line instead of putting it back into mitigating things like this.  GG Sony.

A little.  It will be back up an running today or tomorrow depending upon when the maintenance gets done.  Anyway, that gives me more time to play my Normal+ run in TLoU.  As long as it's up and running for Destiny we'll be good to go.

I can't comment too much on this in General (not private). Suffice to say, if certain companies updated their software to recent hotfixes and implemented proper security practices all around, these outages wouldn't happen.

Update: PSN seems to be back up now. Also, I must say I am impressed how well The PS4 works even when the network is down. I was able to play Diablo 3 solo and stream it the whole time no problem. The only thing I really couldn't do was chat and MP.  Surprised I could stream actually.

i was not able to get any of my  data saved by the PS+  on my ps3   

but other then that had no problem playing crysis

Yeah, I thought about some more SP on a couple games I'm running and ended up finishing watching Wolf of Wall Street, caught some EP of House of Cards and finished the book I was reading.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, Netflix was also working on my PS4. Kinda crazy how much was actually working.

So you pretty much had access to the internet, just couldn't use PSN and what falls under that umbrella.

I'm sure the hackers will attack MS next, then Google, YouTube, FaceBook and everything else they can. It seems to go in waves when stuff like that happens. I always have some single player stuff sitting around just for if that sort of thing happens or my ISP is down.

Didn't you see? They were already attacking Riot all week along with Sony. They started on XBL today.

they did attack MS  today as well but  there was very little down time   fact is  better  system in place  to  stop hackers  from doing such a thing... not to say that MS  is 100%  just takes more to turn off  live..


could be the fact that  we all have been paying into xbox live for  10+ years   and only now sony as  forced gamers to pay to play online.

It also should be noted that that this was a DDoS attack and not a hack.  And Blizzard, Battle.net, Riot Games and other sites have also been hit by the attack for what it's worth.

BTW, I'm not saying MS doesn't get attacked, they just seem to have a better system for dealing with it.  Nobody is immune these days.

All of these big companies have hardware in place that is able to mitigate any attacks like that if setup properly and kept up to date. New exploits come out all the time; most of the time it's poor naming conventions, or poorly designed infrastructure that does them in. Or updates not being done (coughSonycoughRiotcoughcough)
