PC Build Empty Re: PC Build

I would look into a different after market CPU cooler as the one you selected is out of stock or no longer being produced, probably the latter. As for the memory I would suggest 2 x 4 GB sticks over 1 x 8 GB so it will even out the load plus you have 4 RAM slots so no reason to not get 2 and update if you want later. As for the CPU itself like I asked Expert this, do you really need 8 cores? Depending on what you will be doing the likelihood of you using all those cores for extended periods of time at full capacity is unlikely and if you do its going to get hot but you have that covered with an after market CPU cooler. As for storage I see you only have an SSD are you planning on getting a hard drive (Disk)? With only 120 GB of storage that will go fast depending on what you use, and I would go with a Western Digital blue or Seagate 1 TB drive ($55-$60) and have the SSD hold your OS and other regularly accessed programs. Finally the motherboard is a micro ATX so you could if you want get a smaller case as the one you selected is an ATX. If you have a cost boundary let me know and I might be able to work up a build. Hopefully I am being constructive as I don't know how well you are versed in computer so if I need to explain anything or if it looks like I talked down to you that was not my intention. Please feel free to ask questions I love talking hardware  Smile

I would love to get some help. I am looking for around 500-600 price range. I am mostly using this for gaming and everyday stuff. I was going to use the ssd for the os and my external 1TB Hard drive for the other stuff.

Here is what I got.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3siXp

I would still recommend a 1 TB hard drive as window 7 and windows 8 are between 30-40GB so that is a nice chuck out of the SSD. Using an external hard drive is something I haven't really done for anything other then movies and transferring files from one computer to another. Another reason to split up the RAM into 2 sticks is so if one stick fails then you have a good stick still running.

Looks good to me, now if you want you could get a lower clock speed for the RAM as the one you have is 2133 which is nice I think I'm using 1600. You could also get something like the Hyper EVO coolermaster CPU cooler and save $20 bucks. Then you could transfer those funds over to a better power supply as the one you have is a standard power supply if you get something like a 80+ gold or even Platinum rating. Then over time you will be saving a nice amount of money on your power bill. you can look up statistics over the difference in power supplies.

Still looking to build this but I am thinking about switching it up. This is my first build ever. I want something that can play games on high settings in 1080p. Diablo, titanfall and other games. Also something that will last let me know if anybody has any suggestions.

Well what are your preferences when you play 1080p games. Are you looking for a constant 60 FPS or better and / or are you looking for maxed out settings. As these things are achievable for a cost. Right now I'm running a GTX 770 OC from EVGA with 2 GB of RAM. I specifically bought a 120 Hz capable monitor because I love playing games at a higher resolution, 60 + FPS.

What is the most graphics intensive game you would play and do you want graphics settings around mid range or max?

PC Build Empty Re: PC Build

Post by S7 Panzer Mon Apr 21, 2014 10:42 pm

Ok I have Titanfall and I can give you my personal settings. I run everything at high for everything except texture which is very high but not the "insane" setting. Now these setting are great the the thing that will really push your graphics card to the limit is the texture filtering " anisotropic ##x " and " Anti-Aliasing ". These things make your texture even more refined and clean as your eye is built around seeing edges or surfaces while these settings smooth out those surfaces providing a clearer picture. I keep these filters at 2x or 4x anything above that drops FPS like a rock and usually requires more graphics power and or RAM. A graphics card RAM is used for 2 things creating a cleaner picture by holding more information and by providing the ability for multi monitor or higher resolution displays. Graphics cards soon will be way more then what a single 1080 monitor needs, but for now fits the bill quite nicely.

I'm not going to lie if you are wanting max settings constantly you will need to upgrade your graphics card bi or tri yearly and this doesn't include your CPU possibly bottlenecking your GPU later on when GPUs get more powerful. Now I would suggest two paths either get something like a Nvidia GTX 750 or GTX 750 ti or can also go down the AMD path and purchase a R7 260X or a R9 270. All these cards should have 1-2 Gb of RAM go for the 2 GB if you choose it. This allows you to save money while playing most games at max or very high settings but not breaking the bank. This is so next year or later this year you can buy a GTX 870 or 880 or AMD card respectively with the new more powerful Nvidia Maxwell chipset and AMDs Hawaii chipset. The other path is to go all out and purchase something like a GTX 780 or 780 ti or you can go with a R9 290 or 290X. If you go this route then you should be set for 2 years but no promises as hardware in the gaming world sometimes lags behind video game creators for price to cost performance. Personally I bought a GTX 770 and I wish the 750 ti was already released before I bought this card as I would rather have the Nvidia Maxwell chipset. The 750 is the only 700 series to have the Maxwell chip set which is 25% better and supposedly at lease 2X better in power to performance ratios. I will be upgrading to the 800 series when it comes out so ask more questions because I know I just gave you a lot of information.

I would suggest going to either "Newegg" or "Linus tech tips" on youtube and searching the graphics card you are interested in as they should have a video overview with side by side comparisons with other cards.

My 560ti runs ESO on Ultra with no problems, no frame rate drop.

AMD cards are great for mining crypto coins, by a nvidia for gaming.

SSD's are one of the areas I'd be careful. Performance can vary quite dramatically from brand to brand. I can vouch for the Samsung 840 series SSDs. They perform very well. There are definitely others that are great, just advising to look at a lot of reviews before choosing.

Not bad but how are you getting $600 for all that I see $1500? I would also recommend getting a 770 instead of a 670 as its cheaper and better. Also you can lower the power supplies watt amount as I could run 2 graphics cards in my rig and I have a 750W power supply.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention the "K" at the end of your Intel CPU means its overclockable. Now if you plan to overclock then its a smart buy but if not you can go for the same chip but without the "K" and you should save a few bucks. If not just stick with it.

If you're going to buy a gaming PC in the next 2 years, this is the best deal you'll find.

Provided it works and there aren't any major hardware issues. Obviously have him boot it up before paying Smile
Play a video on youtube, listen for any weird noises, look at the motherboard. Even if you don't know anything make sure there is no liquid seeping out of anything, and no capacitors are bulging at the top.
