Baseball Challenge Flags

So who all saw that we now have "extended replays" available. lol i will say that this will be a good idea, the ball being caught and the runner touching the bag gets to be so close sometimes you can't tell till the next day when they chastise the umpires on ESPN. lol what are y'alls thoughts?

It's cool but all replays are reviewed by the MLB office in NY so will the be instant really?
Also how will managers be able to slow things down and take advantage of the game speed. Ex. Batter take your time going to the plate so we can see some more replays on the big board.

I think the suspense and slowness give it kind of an edge, each pitch, as slow as the wind up takes, changes the game.

Love baseball, no problem with the new rules, all the haters above get a clue^^^  baseball is viewed by millions and millions weekly. Remember you get 16 games with the NFL, maybe 82 with NBA --but 162 (4,860 + games played per year) with MLB. While you're pulling your puds real men watch baseball.

Oh, BTW, before I forget, CC Sabathia is now slim and trim and Masahiro Tanaka is a confirmed Yankee. Now we have the arms and bats again.

Baseball may be slow-paced, but I could say the same thing about football being slow-paced.  Plays usually take 4 seconds and then there's a few minutes of waiting for players to line back up again.  I'm all for the replays in baseball though.  There have been so many mind-boggling calls, and sometimes games are so one-sided that it's a wonder that some of these umps keep their jobs.

With baseball I know there's a game tomorrow

Well, the NBA has lost my interest. The NFL season is long gone and forgotten. The snow is slowly melting --still have a 6-8ft. snow pile outside my window, the birds will soon be back in town, and the baseball gods have dispatched the pitchers and catchers (including other position players) to sunny south Florida to begin the long season ahead. That's right, it's baseball season again. The winds of change are upon us again. OC's RedSox, my Yankees and whomever YOU choose to follow are all in camp making preparations to become the next World Series Champion. Its times like this that the last few cold days don't worry me so much. I got home yesterday and pulled up my email and the first thing I saw was a message from MLB.TV and MLB @Bat 2014 saying they've taken the $129.99 for the yearly renewal fee. Yep, that's how it starts! Now I'll sit back and enjoy the beautiful game of baseball on the XB1 (finally the app is coming in March) and of course on all my connected devices (ipad, Blackberry, Roku, laptop, Microsoft Surface, etc.) Yeah, good times are coming no matter where I am!! Just wanted to let everyone know that no matter how hard this winter has been (and it's been very hard on me) the great game of baseball is fast approaching and you'll soon be entertained again. And to make all that even sweeter, Major League Baseball has announced a game (RBI Baseball '14) for the XB1. Perhaps the only thing the PS4 has on XB1 is it's baseball game. Now at least we'll have that again... Rejoice!

We could debate that for hours. Maybe one day we'll meet in person and I can buy you a drink and explain the complexities of baseball. There is no clock. There are outs. Every game played is different. Some are 1-0. Some are 17-12. No other game has so many things happening on the field at once, with so many possibilities of what may happen next. The infield is busy, and chaotic while the outfield is peaceful and serene.

In baseball there is no time limit and therefore the game is truly never over until it is over. In hockey, basketball, football, and soccer there comes a point in almost every game where it is simply impossible for the losing team to win. You cannot score 3 touch downs or 4 goals with 15 seconds left, it just ain't gonna happen unless The Flash is on your team and even then it'd be tough. In baseball both teams have the exact same chance no matter what. The odds may be insane, you may be down by 10 runs with two outs in the 9th, but it is still POSSIBLE to come back and win. You can't down the ball to waste 90 seconds. There is no anti-climax. It always comes down to the last out!

Baseball is the only one of the 5 major sports where the object doesn't score the points! The players do! The baseball field is different from the courts and fields played on in other sports as well. All 4 of the others have set dimensions and two distinct ends and each team defends one end and tries to score on the other. In baseball, while the baselines and pitching mound are universal, all the other dimensions may be whatever the creator's heart desires! This gives a baseball field and stadium a hugely unique feel unlike any other sport. Both teams defend the same plate and both score on the same plate.  

I would argue that baseball requires the most precision in finely tuned skills. Pitching and hitting require a tremendous amount of athletic ability but they require even more honing and repetition to master. I'm sure many great athletes can throw a baseball very hard, but to able to hit a spot while pitching and create the movement we see by great pitchers is closer to art than sport. Watch film of Greg Maddux pitching in the late 90s and tell me that's not art. Also the speed and quickness required in the hands to hit major league pitchers and to make some of those spectacular defense plays is unique to most other sports.

This next point may raise some argument but I also think that baseball requires the most mental ability to excel at. I will take nothing away from an NFL quarterback. The quickness of their thought process and decision making in excellent, however there are so many variables and new situations in baseball every day that it takes an incredible amount of awareness and adaptability to do well. In football, basketball, soccer, and hockey, you have a play list. You memorize your job and you focus on what you are supposed to do and you do it. Most games follow a similar pattern. You find a man to pass to and you shoot or in football you block and get the ball across the line. In baseball every aspect of the game can take on a completely new appearance. There are so many different situations on defense and at the plate and even as a pitcher that you have to know exactly what is going on and be completely alert to everything around you. I would say that baseball players have the most to think about during the course of a game.

Just posted up on FB to see who of my friends are down to go see a home Cubs game to celebrate Wrigley Field's Centennial.  Even if the game sucks, the company will be great, nothing is better than beers and dogs at a game, and Wrigleyville will be nutz with celebrations.  CAN'T WAIT!!!

I haven't been to Fenway or the House that Ruth built but seeing a game at Wrigley is majestic.  No other way to describe it.

Been to Fenway and to Old Yankee stadium. Also been to Dodger stadium (built 1962) and Oakland Coliseum (1966) so Wrigley would complete the dream.

That it would and this would be the best year to do it with the centennial going on.

Somewhere, somehow as a society we lost track of reality. The loud chatter and nonsense by football players caught our attention and we no longer realize what's real. The best sport will forever be baseball. You can say that the majority of Americans are into football, and by comparison that maybe correct. But it's only because as a people we lost track of time. We want everything done immediately. We want to see the player run over someone. We've decided that violence is more important. We no longer teach our children what teamwork means. Instead they see the flash and flair of football players and think that's what being an athlete is all about. When it comes to money, they don't realize that baseball contracts are far more impressive than football or even basketball. That's because baseball players (in general) carry themselves in a certain way and remain out of the spotlight. They just want to play the game, and do it right.

So what is your second favorite sport? I personally like Lacrosse but have never played it. Something about that ability to play anywhere while having the rush of hockey without the need for fights. I also don't mind baseball but I couldn't watch, maybe play it.

very strong second favorite would be football (Go Dolphins!), but nothing could ever take the place of baseball.
