We're back! And ready for Round Two of our ongoing Forza Championship Series. This time we will be racing E-Class on our march to the top. Stepping up from F-Class you will find that you can do a lot more with the upgrades this time around. You will be able to put more into your car and get more back in return. Drivers will have 2-weeks to build, tune and test their cars, at which point we will meet up and see who has what it takes to win the gold.
Here are the details:
Date:Thursday, April 22, 2010
Time: Qualifying starts at 8:30pm sharp Eastern Time
Car Class: E-Class
Damage: Simulation
Collisions: Default
Starting Grid: Random
Tracks: TBA
# of Races: 5
# of Laps: 5-7 (depending on track length)
S7 Members ONLY!
The winner will be decided by points base on where you finish each track. The person with the most points will be the Champ. Bragging rights and a Trophy goes to the winner.
So do you have what it takes?

I like the idea of an entry fee. Also, I'll pay the 10k for anyone that doesn't qualify.

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
Can we have the quali track in advance?
Also, I think quali should be based on fastest laps, like it is in F1. We'd need to take a picture though since the screen is only on for 5 secs....

I think race time shows consistency and the cars overall racing potential. Anyone can just go all out and have 1 good lap.

Not over two laps it doesn't.
Make quali 3 laps, stagger the drivers lap starts, then take the fastest laps. Fairest way I can see of doing it.
It should either be a race or hot laps, not the mix of both. Having a bunch of ghost cars pile into the first corner can be a little distracting.
Last quali was essentially a hot lap anyway, I just think we should get off the fence on the matter.

I agree... I'm with lap time... of course for it to count is to have no penalties on that lap

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
Wouldn't Interseptor have either not qualified or barely qualified last time based off of hot laps? It's fine with me if we do it that way since I do better with a single lap time I'm just throwing thoughts out there.

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
Nah, Zak was pretty fast as far as I can recall. I assumed the last quali session was based off the hot lap, hence why I was swerving from side to side warming my tyres. Luckily, I had a really fast 2nd lap (fastest of all....) which got me some time back. The guys at the back seemed to be fairly disadvantaged though, they were quite a way behind the final times the top few posted, despite ghost mode....and I know they're not slow guys, so I can't put it down to that. So, I do think the hot laps would be the best for all.
I am of course using the term 'hot-lap' to mean the fastest lap of the race (per player), not based of the actual Hot Lap leaderboards.
Maybe have it as a 5 lapper and it can count as the warm up. Plus, it could be done in two separate rooms and then compared, so we don't have to wait for other groups.

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
Well, the only real reason I did total time was to make it easier to see who had the fastest times. If you do the total race time it is easy to tell who is fastest. 1st place is fastest, 8th place is slowest. For Hot Laps to work, you have to record everyone's times and compare them after the fact. It may be more realistic to use Hot Laps for qualifying but it's also more work.
Also, if you fail to record all the times at the end (like we did at the first Tourney), what do you do then? Re-race? We could be qualifying all night. With Total Times we knew OC and Charles had the slowest times overall, even though we did not get to record them.
And as Atrum pointed out, Total Time does show more consistency. I did not have the best lap time overall but I beat everyone by about 2 seconds total.
Neither way is perfect. I'll think about it and see if I can come up with a better system

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
Consistency over 2 laps... seems a little contradictory.
All it would take is somebody using the freeze frame on their TV or getting off a snap with a camera. Pretty much everyone should be rolling with a TV that has that function these days.

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
What do you guys think of letting the last Tourney winner automatic entry into the next tourney? For example, Sticky would be guaranteed a spot in this Tourney and the winner of this Tourney would be automatically qualified for the Next. It would kinda add to the value of winning the Tourney.

Does it let you stay in that menu until everyone is finished though? Someone could finish last by a fair amount but have had a terrible first lap and stellar second.

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
Yes, you can stay in the menu until the last person finishes, then a count down starts (like 5-10 sec). but if the person who is recording the times is the last to finish he has a hard time recording the times. That is what happened in the last Tourney. Glock was going to record the times but had a bad 2nd lap and finished near the back of the pack.
Taking a quick pic at the end of the race should solve those problems.
Also, If we allow the winner of the last Tourney automatically qualify, that person could simply sit around until the times are recorded before finishing.

Re: S7 Forza 3 E-Class Tourney
Indeed. And number of laps can be adjusted to whatever we want. At this point I would like to talk to everybody and get an overall feel for what people would like to do. I figure we can all talk on Thursday (tomorrow) during the official Forza night.
Hopefully we will get a good turnout tomorrow and we can work all of this out.

Friendly reminder. The Tourney is tomorrow! Qualifing starts at 8:30pm eastern. If you are not online by 8:30pm you may miss out so don't be late.
I am really looking forward to this. Should be a blast. I just hope I'm not too out of practice. See you guys tomorrow!
