Thoughts?

I have to say after my months of MW3, I HATE these controls... tried a bunch of different variants still dont like them... Sadly with Blops 2 right around the corner I'm doubting I'll be spending much time in this...

However, in the ONE game of multiplayer we could squeeze in between server crashes... I do still love driving a warthog... like 14 driving assists and 3 splatters later, that's just like old times...

Played a couple levels of campaign (on normal) but lack of ammo/weapons was kinda lame, I found myself looking for a new weapon ALL THE TIME... and the controls made me play like sh1t, which definitely doesn't make me want to play it -_-


Overall, it looks nice, it plays nice... but the controls really make playing unappealing for me.

Wiggles I was having trouble with this also but found the contol set up very similar to COD. It was called "fish sticks" when you are going through the controler setup flip though close to the end. Works for me feels like it should have been like that after playing COD

I just stuck with the default controls. I dove right into multiplayer and I didn't even know what any of the controls were, but after about 10 minutes of playing I figured out what everything did.

Fishstick is one of the interesting new additions and is described as being "beneficial to those coming from other FPS games." This is a clear nod to the Call of Duty series as, aside from the slightly humorous cod = fish reference, the button layout is similar to what you find in the Modern Warfare or Black Ops titles.

changed my mind... one game so far this morning... and it all clicked i'm liking it and playing better

I'm guessing by this thread you can not map your own buttons but have to choose from pre-sets. That drives me crazy. Why not let every game map the buttons how you want them? Hopefully my copy will be at the house when I get home.

Got to say default, fishstick, southpaw, or boxer (which I choose)--whatever your favorite the game is "OMFG throwmommafromthetrain EPIC" in every way. The new loadout slots to choose what you take into battle (no more power weapon rush), personal ordinace drop after kill streaks, all of it sort of feels a lot like COD. The regular Halo is still in there and the game is so much fun it's crazy. Love the new layout, look, feel, story, campaign, MP, game modes-- everything!!!

If I weren't a guy that already owned every single version this one would convert me. But since I've been a card carrying member for awhile...I just said "welcome back old friend, welcome back"!

BTW, one ordinace drop provided the "SAW" and it's just what you think--the futuristic version of the squad automatic weapon. Felt like I was playing RB6V or MW3

That SAW is pretty ridiculous.

I used Green Thumb in halo 2 so I could BxB easier. Then bumper jumper was the natural progression for me in 3. I've stuck with that and enjoy it.

Servers are behaving a lot better (with a much higher load, odd) and I'm having a great time in the games. Glad you started liking it more wiggles.

Man I was feeling the same thing last night. Tried regular (terrible), boxer, green thumb, and fish sticks. The problem I have is that the setups that have the melee on the left LT (where I want it so I can melee better and not toss ridiculous nades) have moved sprint to pad and put crouch on the LS, or move zoom to RB instead of RS. The fishsticks was ok in that the sprint and melee are like CoD, but LT is nade and that messes me up - hitting LT by accident and having it melee is way more forgiving than throwing a nade. Evidently having LT zoom is just not an option at all. Why can I not just map it myself????!

Now with halo I kinda dig the RS zoom, especially with the sniper's 2 zoom depths - I tried the fishsticks and can't hit RB then RT fast and accurately. So that leaves Boxer which is what I've been using since H2 anyway.

My ideal map would be:
LT melee (important)
LB armor ability
LS sprint (important)
RT fire
RB nade
RS zoom (important)
A jump
B crouch


I found Boxer was still the closest to the way I want it. Atleast my melee and zoom are in the right spots. The only "drawback" is sprint is on B so difficult to use - the crouch on the LS is handy for being sneakier though. I've been running with the thruster armor perk which makes up for the lack of an accurate sprint.

Between this and the terrible emblem creation I was disappointed with 343, but the graphics are great, I'm enjoying the campaign, and so far enjoying the MP.

Use Bumper Jumper. Sprint and Armor abilities are good to use, but they are probably the last things that will make you do well in a game.

Oh yeah - well I will try that again but didn't think it felt right with the sniper rifle scoping.

Played for about 15 minutes last night. Got sticky grenaded 3 times and died each time so I just turned it off and got back on Assassins Creed III, lol.

I also played for a few minutes last night. I suck at Halo but I still had fun. Even killed a guy with a energy sword using my own melee head on. FYI - That guy must have been terrible to have lost to me in a melee fight when he was the one with the energy sword. So there is hope for me and the other Halo noobs.

There's also the popular 'hide behind atrum and see if he lets you get some of his kills' method for Halo survival

The AI is good at tossing plasma nades. I only played a little, but died 3 times all to being stuck by plasmas.
