Bast Gaming TVs?
Well, I have been looking into getting a new TV and was wonder what your thoughts are. I have been scouring the internet and while there is no definitive answer I would like to hear what you guys have to say. Here is my general guide line of things I look for...
40"-46"
LED/LCD
1080P
120hz
1,000,000:1 contrast ratio
Under $1000
Any suggestions? Comment? Recommendation?

Re: Bast Gaming TVs?
I've actually been leaning towards plasma lately. 240hz, response times super fast now (plasma tech is better than it used to be so they are not slower anymore).
I'll check the exact model of mine but if you're over the 40" range I prefer plasma.

Re: Bast Gaming TVs?
Yeah, actually, Plasma's have almost always been faster but they have a problem with burn-in and supposedly don't last as long. There is often a problem is glare on the glass screen too.
As for 240hz, you can get that on your top end LCD's too but usually cost a little more than I am looking to spend. I'd like to stay in the $600-$800 range if possible.
If money was no object, I would probably buy an Sharp Aquos Quattron 3D LED Backlit LCD
EDIT: 240hz is only for LCD's and the fastest currently available (2ms refresh rate). As stated above, plasma's are faster. A nice plasma has a 600hz rating and a refresh time of 0.001ms. Plasma's pwn in the speed test.

Re: Bast Gaming TVs?
I bought mine for $700 at Best Buy, 600hz 1080p 46" plasma. Burn in is pretty irrelevant nowadays. I leave my tv on and have for the 6 months I've had it almost 24/7 and no burn in at all.

Re: Bast Gaming TVs?
if you sit really near your tv like myself nothing bigger then a 32inch
but if you sit back then i would go anywhere in the 40inch nothing less then 1080p and try to find the best mix of contras and hz that best fits your price tags..i have played on a 60hz tv and its not that bad but i would recommended at least 120hz.also look into a LED t TV they are sexy as hell and you could find one at a good price as long as you dont go all out with them..
like the one i have right now 32inch LG LED TV priced at $850.00 (be it thats not the price i payed for it FTW)
post up some links to tv's you are looking at and i can give you better feedback and witch one would be better and y.

46"
LED backlit LCD
1080p
120hz
5ms
1,000,000:1
...and I can pick one up for about $750. For the money it seems like a great TV. I'm gonna see if I can find one locally to look at as well as check local closeout deals.

Re: Bast Gaming TVs?
I'm always a fan of the Samsungs...
Don't need/want 3d... love the LED backlight.
Problem with Plasma too is that they don't have near the contrast ratio as the LEDs

Re: Bast Gaming TVs?
Like Droopy said, most places have good deals during Super Bowl week.
Plasma is really good now- and its contrast ratio is way different than a back-light TV, no matter the tech and is usually superb. The reason LCD's went to "local dimming" LEDs is to try and compete with plasma on contrast ratio. Plus the refresh rate is not the same as what and LCD is, and LCD's have to take in account pixel response time to even make the refresh rate matter (from a quality perspective). Read any of the tech sites on TV stats, and you will see contrast ratio on response time is most often incorrectly and inconsistently reported. So don't go solely off of posted stats.
Most of the cheaper LED LCD's you look at are "edge lit" TV's for a thinner screen. Locally dimmed is still back light, and is the way to go, but is much more expensive. Then again, cheaper locally dimmed TV's can have the halo effect in dark scenes, as it has fewer but brighter LED’s. Localy dimmed > Edge lit > Back lit.
As always, you get what you pay for. Right now there really is no difference in most of the tech out there. Sony and Samsung still make there LCD panels at the same factory, so the "guts" is all that is different. I still would choose a Samsung over Sony, but in the recent years the price difference is not as great as it once was. The new Sharp TV’s are nice, and if you remember years back Sharp was the best LCD out there, and they have been making quality LCD’s the longest.
Plasma's are still about the best picture and size for the $$$. They really have no burn in issues anymore, but there are several other "problems" with them- as even without the burn in they still are a phosphor based set, so their colors will tend to fade over time. They also are much heavier, produce more heat, and use more power. Lastly, they do have a shorter expected life span, but with it being 10 years vs. 15 most people are going to want a new set with new tech before then anyhow. The main reason I don't like them is the glass screen and reflections. I know it's a minor thing, but I like the matte LCD screens. You have to be careful with some of the new LCD's for this reason too- particularly Samsung which likes a glossy front for some reason. Their pluses are strong in price vs. size, contrast ratio, and refresh rate (in other words- picture quality).
Best place to review a set you are thinking about getting is at the AVS forums. Just be prepared to spend many hours researching and reading. Just search the model number and you should find some good stuff there.
PS- there are no affordable LED TV's out there, they are LCD's with LED backlighting.

Re: Bast Gaming TVs?
Well, I finally did it. I went to Jackson yesterday and visited several stores and looked at about 100 tv's. When all was said and done I bought this beauty from Best Buy...

Got her home and the picture is amazing! Never seen anything like it! Really thrilled with it and LED back-lit is definitely the way to go.

You need some cool BluRays to show it off too. Something like Avatar with all that crazy Pandora color. I'm a bit jealous, and I have a nice TV. LOL.
