Overwatch
So this game pretty much owns my soul. If you are not playing this game, you should be. It's simply amazing. Fast, crazy fun. It's just a super polished game from top to bottom. Gameplay is amazing. Each character plays incredibly different from each other so every match feels different and presents a new challenge. Hero's are well balanced. Each has it's own strengths and weakness and you can switch mid-round as needed to tackle whatever challenge the other team throws at you. Queuing for a match is fast and the games are always a tense and crazy affair.
I know a lot of people seem to thing there is a lack of game modes and fear it's going to get stale but after 50+ hours so far I can put those fears to rest. Because there are so many different heroes to play and each plays so uniquely, each match is completely different and frankly it never gets old.
If you are even remotely interested in this game, buy it. If you are not remotely interested, buy it anyway. The game is that good.

Who all is playing this currently? I know the PS4 has Magus, Evol, Kenny and myself playing regularly. And I know a few of you have it on PC. Anyone on the X1 side playing? Speak up! This game deserves a following.

Re: Overwatch
Just not up for getting into a new game now. I've found a good group of people on TCTD and I've been playing that with all my free time. I don't get a ton of time to play so the content doesn't really get old for me. Not to mention, I've started an alt and I'm taking my time with her so that's giving me more to do.

Re: Overwatch
I've been playing on PC a lot. Definitely the best shooter that has come out in a long time.
I know a lot of the X1 side went with battleborn (which is essentially dead) - but I'd recommend checking the game out.
There's definitely a reason so many people are playing it. It's just fun.
Lots of characters, good map design, balance, etc.

Pretty much this ^
The game is insanely popular and growing every day and for good reason. It's just a d@mn good game. Plus it's a great team shooter. Tons of strategies and character combos that can be devastating with good teamwork. Custom matches would allow for practice (or clan matches) and a solid team can roll the competition. Plus the new competitive (Ranked) mode launches on consoles next week. It's a very exciting time for OW right now.
And remember, All new heroes and maps DLC will be free.

Re: Overwatch
Competitive is a great mode too. They basically watched what the esports teams/leagues were doing and implemented a better version of that into the game to make it fair for both teams.

Re: Overwatch
I've been thinking about getting it, as I'm normally the first to jump on anything Blizzard. I just didn't like the demo as much as Battleborn (and we play it quite a bit- just ran a group of 3 through hardcore a couple of nights ago with Me, Glock, and Owl) and had already preordered Doom. So with Battleborn, Doom, new DLC for COD and Fallout, something had to give (not to mention Division that I passed on). Plus, I have been playing a lot of Destiny again lately (that and Diablo keep drawing me back in).
I will get it sometime (I'm not going to wait for a price drop because Blizzard), I've just grown accustomed to ranking up, earning gear, and outfitting my own characters, so Overwatch seemed too basic even with the roster. You can do all the leveling and outfitting in Battleborn, but there are so many characters that its not really necessary to have fun with it. That makes me realize I probably will not miss it much in Overwatch.
In Overwatch do you earn all your abilities and "supers" solely based on the timer? That's one thing I tire of, particularly when not playing with the clan, is in all those other games whoever starts out hot and in the lead is really hard to beat. They are the ones earning the kill streaks and popping their supers first, and you are always going to be behind (not to mention those with gear that simply never drops for you no matter the hours you play). It's great when you are on the team doing it, but when you are not it's painful. I see 10x more 1000 to 500 games than 1000 to 900, and I prefer the closer competitive matches (one of the reasons search is so fun). Overwatch looks to be much more balanced and competitive, and you can always switch to counter. I would guess good teamwork is still going to own the day, but overwatch seems to be more friendly to newer players and still reward vets who have mastered their characters. It just seems more balanced and competitive like Halo or even Rainbow 6.
My biggest problem with the beta is I didn't like a lot of characters and it seemed so little for $60 (everyone else thought no story was a non-issue, but sure could bash on TitanFall for the same) even with me never playing the story in COD recently. I could only see myself playing 3 or 4 characters, while in BattleBorn I was wanting to play about 12 or 15. I probably just need to get through the learning curve on the characters to warm up to them. I may pick it up, but I still want to play the Division too (will wait for price drop). It's just a dystopian NYC Destiny, and I've been burning a lot of time on Destiny. Just too many games, too little time- good 1st word problems (plus R6 Vegas 2 free on gold starting tomorrow).

Re: Overwatch
Teamwork is the biggest factor generally. If you're extremely skilled with a character, you can do fine with them. However, just about every character is bad against certain team comps.
The matchmaking has been pretty even for me so far. Sometimes you get stomped by a team that's just better, but that's a rarity. Competitive (so far) has had almost all close games for me. Not sure how many times both teams have tied at 99% and strung overtime out for ages contesting the point for that last %
As for characters, that's why I initially waited a week to get the game. I played the beta a few times and didnt mind a few characters. Having played the full game, you tend to pick which character you play based on what your team has, and what the other team is doing.
Very common to change characters after a few deaths to find something that works better.

First off YES, all abilities are on a timer with the slight exception of your Ultimate (or Ult) ability. This is technically on a timer too but can be affected by landing shots on enemies. It fills up a regular rate till it hits 100, at which point you are fully charged and can use your Ult. But if you are doing well, it will fill up quicker. Everything else is on a set cooldown timer once you use the ability. Each character has different cooldowns for each ability so it varies from hero to hero but they are balanced and fun.
Nothing to unlock or upgrade. You have all your abilities from the start and everyone is on an even playing field. As you mention teamwork is the real key. Look at your team and pick a character that is going to compliment the rest of the team. Make sure you have a Tank, Healer, Sniper, DPS etc... Team composition and teamplay will win the day. Once you have seen the other team, you might change characters to counter a specific threat on the other team and so on. It's this aspect of the game that makes it so interesting and fun. Think on your feet and change the tide of the battle. You might be getting shut down for a while but a few changes and a big push later you start to roll over the other team and win the day.
Also, you can pick the same characters if you want. Some of the best (and worst) team have 2 or more of the same character running around. Last night we fought a full team of Winstons (Tank Monkey hero). All 6 of them were crazy monkeys running around. We made a few counters once we saw the team and roasted them but it was still fun. This makes for some crazy fun and sometimes surprisingly effective teamplay too.
Basically, the game is amazing fun and has all the elements of a great team game for the clan. I highly recommend it.

Yeah, even if you miss a shot it will still somehow hit them with his insane hitbox
But yeah Miller, OW is very very competitive but only if you are playing with a real team. Any time I play with a full group of friends, we either dominate groups of randoms or have the most intense FPS matches I've ever played with groups who are playing as a team. However, the downside of this is that if I hop on quick play with randoms, I'm usually just getting pissed off as my teammates run around doing that COD one man show kamikaze BS as we get our asses beat. Kinda like BF4, this is not a game that you can win by yourself.
As for the Titanfall comparison, the main reason that OW is not getting the same bad wrap is because Blizzard is actively working with the community to make the game better FOR FREE. They are monitoring the PC and console versions separately to see what heroes need tweaking, new maps and characters will be added for free, and it really feels like they want to make this a fun and competitive game rather than a cash grab. Titanfall was a lot like SW:BF where they set the games up for $eason passes and they never felt complete.
Re: Overwatch
Also I want to add that I really did not enjoy the beta nor the first couple hours of playing the "real" release. I felt a little overwhelmed with the character selection, movement seemed slow paced, and the whole game seemed like a clusterf***. Once I started to grow accustomed to the characters (both for myself and for countering), the maps, and the general flow of the game types, I finally saw how incredibly balanced the game was and actually how fast and frantic matches can be, which is the opposite of what I saw early. There is a great deal of strategy and teamwork that I haven't seen in an FPS for a long time.
Re: Overwatch
Was able to hit 57 last night before dropping down to 55. Going against some really tough teams. Hopefully the group I play with can hit the low 60s.

Been out of town for a week and I finally got my placement matches done yesterday. Placed @ 53 and have been hovering between 53 and 54 ever since. I'd love to see 60, but I'm not sure that is going to happen as I usually only play with 1 or 2 guys in my squad (and I still need to get better ).

Yeah, good luck doing that solo/duo. I have a group of friends that is pretty 'meh' that are all around 60 because they only ever play in a group of 5.
Meanwhile I hover between 50-55 going solo regardless of how well I do

Fell all the way to 46 at one point. I was like a gambler that didn't know when to quit. I just kept playing solo Q all night and kept getting the worst teams ever and every loss was nearly a full rank. It was a nightmare. But I have been playing smarter (with friends) and clawing my way back up. I am proud to say I made it back to 51 last night. Wild ride this season so far...
