Crimson Doubles

So Crimson Days is upon us and once again Bungie has transformed the Tower for this seasonal event.  They have painted the Tower red with roses , rose petals and some new flags.  We also get some new dances, emotes, shaders and emblems.  Most of that is fairly boring but we also get a limited time gamemode called Crimson Doubles.

Crimson Doubles is a doubles elimination mode similar to Trials.  No respawns (teammate revives only) and the first to 5 matches win.  You either eliminate the other team or capture the base at the end in a sudden-death type of situation.  Like Trials, you also have to have a partner, there is no matchmaking.  Unlike Trials, level does not matter.  Use whatever gear and guns you like.  Get your favorite gear out of storage, grab a partner and go to town.  Kenny and I played some last night and I must say it was a blast.  Check it out if you get a chance.

I might give this a try, wouldn't mind a red 320 ghost. Any idea on what you need to get the ghost?

I was a little skeptical about how this would play out but I have to say that this was a blast! Matches for us go pretty quick but just the whole 1 life, with revives, 2v2 team work was so much fun....especially if you're winning. The first couple of matches were tough but I think Bungie is doing a pretty good job at matching up skill levels. What I don't care for is the broken heart mode where the screen goes a little red. I like the perks with that but the redness is distracting for me, but that's just personal preference. Also, I've been getting some good loot for the first 5 or do games. Seems to die off after that. I didnt get a 320 ghost but I did get a 300 that came as a 3rd reward instead of the 2 that you may normally get. All in all I think this is a success.

I've looked at a couple different places and it looks like the RNG for the loot is about the same as most of the other special events Bungie runs, a bunch of old shaders and emotes and legendary gear that's like 300ish or less. I saw a post or two about getting an exotic (possibly Three of Coins) and I didn't see anyone mention getting the 320 ghost. That being said, people mostly post to b1tch about the crap drops they get and those that pwn the RNG generally don't say anything and just enjoy their shiny toys.

Yeah loot is RNG. There are weekly bounties that give loot too. There are also new shaders and emblems and I even got a Fall 2015 emote that I didn't have. As for the ghost, it can drop at any light level up to 320. No guarantee for a 320 roll. You'd have to get pretty lucky. Kenny has gotten like 3 ghosts, none of which were much over 300 (I don't think).

I think I'll try it out, but it's really frustrating to spend a bunch of time running a special event and then get a bunch of crap.

Sweet! I've played a bunch and not gotten 1 ghost. This is great news.

Yup, I'll probably try to find someone to run 7 matches with and then go on to raiding or maybe Golgaroth CP x2 or 3. There's no other gear specific to the event and no progression for the event, so not really much point in playing more unless I'm having a blast.

Found a guy on the100 and we hit this up for an hour or so.  Knocked out all the bounties and the 7 match story mission, so I should get my 320 ghost.  Most of my other loot was mediocre, but I got a Red Spectre auto rifle (ok for Crucible) and an ATS/8 Tarantella chest piece, which unfortunately dropped at 290 because I didn't have my 310+ gear on when I got it.

Sweet! I love that chest piece. I got it for my Hunter a while back. One of the best gear in the game in my opinion. Sounds like it was worth an hour.

I played a bunch more and really had a blast. Ended up going through with 2 of my characters just to get the free Emotes and finally got a 302 shell. My son actually got a 320 drop for him so I guess he'll end up with two of them once he gets his package.

Overall I really enjoyed the gamemode and wish it would stick around longer. It's more tactical gameplay is fun and a nice change of pace from the normal crucible mode (aside from Trials of course). I'd love to see a matchmakeing version of this sometime.

The guy I ran with was about the same skilllevel as me and we died a ton but had a good time. We chatted beforehand so we each knew what we were running and then talked between matches about switching weapons. I liked it more since your LL wasn't figured in and I could use some old yr 1 weaps.
