Project Cars First impressions
Everyone post up you first impressions.
My initial thoughts: Go through and tweak your controls first thing.
Also, start easy unless you're really hardcore.
I only played a few kart races and can't give a real review on gameplay/performance yet. However, it seemed a bit 'chunky' at first. Havent played enough to really say

Re: Project Cars First impressions
The controller issue was screwing me up so much in the hour or so that I played last night that I ended up buying a wheel about an hour ago so I should get that on Friday and will give better feedback then, lol.
I've been saying I wanted a wheel for quite a long time and this just gave me an excuse to get one. I consider it an early 40th B-Day present to myself.

Re: Project Cars First impressions
Played a bit more over lunch. I moved up a few classes and the game felt a lot smoother driving than the karts.
I would not advise starting tier 8 although that seems logical.
Also, the menu sticks frequently. I think it's because the game is loading your data to your profile (potentially online on a server). You can't navigate any further until that load finishes. The GUI is a bit rough so it feels like you're frozen for a few seconds.

Good deal. Hopefully you have a bit more luck than the XB1 side of things. It's a pretty big mess currently.

Probably not a bad idea. Great game if they can fix some of the issues. But keep in mind most of the larger problems are only the Xbox One.

Re: Project Cars First impressions
Performance so far seems hit or miss. I really doubt everything is XBO specific. If you come from a Forza background you'll find the menus a bit lacking, and the gameplay a bit rough by comparison. Not rough in the 'poorly made' way. Rough as in unless you tone down settings it physically feels rough to play. Hitting grass has a LOT of feedback. I assume the grass is lightly set on top of thousands of miniature pyramids xD
Really though it's felt pretty good. The only time I saw the steering get wonky was in the kart races with all assists off. I'm pretty good at racers but think I hit some issues where my kart would randomly not turn, or decide it was forcing itself right.
Overall it's a new racer with a new feel. For being an adjustment, it doesn't play bad at all.

Re: Project Cars First impressions
Well, I got to put in about an hour tonight after Destiny. Not nearly enough to time to form a full opinion but I was impressed overall. PS4 version seemed to run perfectly so far.
I am definitely out of practice when it come to racing and I could feel it right off. Plus the adjustment to a new racer Atrum mentioned made for an embarrassing first few laps. I started in the Clio Cup (Teir 6) as I had no interest in Kart racing. After my practice laps I qualified 1st and won the first race easily. Next I skipped qualifying for race 2 and started 20th. Very cool race with a required pit stop. After 5 laps I managed to finish 1st again. Very close race and very fun.
I still have a lot to learn and a lot of adjustments to make for controls, sensitivity etc... But overall I really liked my initial experience. I'll post up more later.

Yeah, the kart races are just a LOT different than normal cars.

Re: Project Cars First impressions
I did note the controls seem to be a little twitchy for me tastes and I am a little disappointed you can't changes this from in-race. The setting for steering sensitivity, dead zone, FoV, camera distance etc... can only be accessed from the main menu/help. The problem with this is these types of settings need to be tested and tweaked in-game to get it just right. So basically you have to make adjustment, load up a game, launch, back-out, make a new adjustment, load up a new game, launch etc... Not a good design IMO.

I'll hang around this thread reading until you guys say things are "normal" (whatever that is). Then I'll get this one.

A list of current issues involving the Xbox One version in case you want to check it out. I don't blame you for holding off at this point. I made a decision to just completely stop playing until I get my wheel on Friday (crosses fingers) and see if I can get that to work, as there seems to be significant FFB issues as well. I want to praise this game as I was (and still am to a point) really hyped for it, but at least as far as the Xbox version goes I don't think anybody could legitimately praise it. Maybe after I get my wheel!

Re: Project Cars First impressions
Keep in mind a lot of that is stuff is small issues. As long as it's not game breaking most of that stuff is forgivable (invisible tires in pit for example). From what I have seen so far the controller issue on the X1 seems to be the worst (and actually game breaking but has a workaround?).
A lot of that stuff is listed on the PS4 page too but I haven't run into any problem yet. At least not any I have noticed but it's still early in the race (pun intended). I'll keep you guys posted on what I find but I don't get the feeling this game is buggy or unfinished. A little rough around the edges in places but it felt pretty solid to me for the little I played so far.
* I hope I don't eat those words after putting in some serious time lol

Agreed, some of the things aren't huge issues but enough to be annoying. The XB1 controller issue workaround works for some people but not all, me included unfortunately. I've tried everything I could do. I played for 2-3 hours specifically on Spa (so I had a reference track) and nothing I changed got me to the point of being able to control the cars at all. The stick locking and the full lock at around 40% of the stick usage just killed it for me. I'd barely move the stick and the car would go full left or right.

Re: Project Cars First impressions
Okay here are my first impressions. I only played for about an hour the first night and about 2 hours last night. First let me note some small things I noticed that don't affect game play. I don't like the color scheme (just a personal preference thing). When choosing a nationality Ireland was not a choice. Any game I play if given a choice I always choose Ireland as my Grandma was born there. I was just a little surprised to see that.
Now onto some bigger issues. I first had issues with setting the controller layout. I decided with this game to finally commit to driving with no assist as it was the one thing from keeping me competitive with the front of the pack on Forza. After changing some of the controller buttons I kept getting "not all required controls are assigned" message but it would not tell me what controls where required. Apparently you have to have KER assigned.
I also notice on the second day that I lost all engine noise. I reset the game and even checked audio settings but nothing worked. I'm hoping the next time I get online to play I wont have this issue.
I did experience the controller issue where the steering would lock but it was very random and didn't always happen. Seemed to happen more with the karts when I was racing on the first day but not as much the second day when I was racing GT.
One more thing to point out was on the second day I would get a message "cant connect to online data" when starting the game and had to play offline.
I have been keeping a notebook next to me while I play and will let you know if I have any other issues.

Re: Project Cars First impressions
I discovered quite a big problem last night that I was surprised hadn't been reported on any forums that I've seen and have posted on the official forums.
The frame rate causes a HUGE loss of time on track. I did a test of Spa Qualifying with 0 opponents and incremented up to the max of 35. I posted my results in the following post in the thread I created last night...
Um, is this a HUGE bug or intended or my game just messed up?

Re: Project Cars First impressions
I'm getting a little further into the game and still enjoying it very much but I can't quite find the right controller settings. The game still feels way too twitchy to me. Gonna keep plugging away but right now it feels too much like a PC port and the controller settings are really intended for a Wheel. Hopefully I can get a set up that I like pretty soon.

That time/game physics issue it a pretty big concern. If time didn't matter in the game it might not be so bad, but a sports game that doesn't accurately measure time is pretty much useless.

Re: Project Cars First impressions
The good thing is that when the game is working and there aren't any issues happening the game is AMAZING with a wheel, even with the FFB not working as intended. Assuming they fix the issues they say they are going to this will be an awesome game in a few months. As it stand it's a good game, just too many bugs.
I'll be continuing to play as the wheel makes it so much more fun.
