Re: problem with my hard drive
Sounds like a partition/formatting problem... I would first check to see if you have any other drives showing on your system (Hard Disk Volumes). If not, then I would back everything up and reformat the drive. I recommend partitioning it into at least two drives. Then reinstall windows and everything else, then restore your backed up data. It's a real pain in the @ss... but sounds like your only solution... I would use the utility from your hard disk manufacturer to format and partition the drive.

Re: problem with my hard drive
Good advice Glock.
Wonky, it's kinda hard really understanding what you're saying. You said it only says 50GB total? Perhaps YOU THOUGHT it was a 500GB but really it always said 50.0GB (notice I put the point to indicate that it's not 500GB). In which case there's nothing they or anyone can do for you. You seem to have files running rampant....maybe you could just delete some crap that you don't need?

Re: problem with my hard drive
Good thought Klown... also is this a laptop of desktop?
If you can, open up your case and take a look at the identifiers on your HD and see if you can really find out how much space there is on it.

Re: problem with my hard drive
desktop ,no it is a 500gb hardrive the specs from the factory say so , and also on the side of my computer the sticker from hp is still on there saying the same thing , and I called hp like 4 times and also 3 times chatting with them online they gave me no help other then to back it up its a pain in the ass!
and also when I look into computer management click on to disk management click on the drive it shows that there 457.0 gb unused..
trying to shrink the volume and then extand it but its not letting me hit shrink....

Re: problem with my hard drive
Another problem is that it's an HP...personally, from what I use at work, HP/Compaqs are sketchy. Dell's seem pretty solid.
Of course, imho, you're best bet when it comes to a PC is to build one. If someone held me down and made me own a PC, I would build one...but if that's not an option for you, I suggest returning your HP and buy one from Dell or Alienware.

Re: problem with my hard drive
Toshiba's are really good to and Toshiba's products have long life spans whether its TV's, Laptops, Computers from what I hear I have a Toshiba satellite L505 series and it has never given me a problem.
Re: problem with my hard drive
Wonky, my friend had a similar prob. His sound card disappered on his hp, he just created a another account/ login other then admin, and it popes back up might u might try it.Hey don't know it this will work , but it easy and worth a shot. Also tigerdirects got a 1.5 tb hard drive for $69 after rebate, u could just chunk that in and live with your huge problem (hp) issue

Persoanlly I like HP's... especially their laptops... never really had a bad experience with them...
When it comes to desktop PCs I build my own though
