xbox 360 slim hard drive

Well I was going to get the Microsoft 250 gig hard drive for my new xbox kinect slim at toys-r-us since they were having a buy 1 get next item for 50% off but they don't carry it. I started to look online and I saw they sell this:

and add a 250 gig hard drive for $40 and add the microsoft info on the drive so its recognized
anyone know anything about doing this

I'm pretty sure you dont have to have an xbox branded hard drive. You should be able hook up an external hard drive via usb no matter who makes it. When you hook up your external hard drive it should fomat it to work with xbox. Can anyone confirm this for me?

If you do an external HD- when it's formatted by the 360 for use, it only gives you 16 gig no matter the size. The same goes with thumbdrives, etc...

The max size the xbox will use is 250GB. So if you went out and bought a WD Scorpio Black 500 GB drive and installed it, you would still only be able to use 250GB if it.
