You are invited to enter the Crucible for a limited time event that will test your power as a Guardian. The ratings on your gear will make all the difference! Unlike the other competitive playlists in Destiny, Iron Banner is not a level playing field.
 
Bring your deadliest weapons. Equip your sturdiest armor. The Iron Lords are seeking out the most powerful warriors who call the City their home. For those brave enough to fight (and to win), there will be new rewards to serve as a warning of their prowess in the arena.

My experience is you get more loot if you fight and lose.

From what I've read so far in this event you get ZERO crucible rep for losing so chances are there will be a lot of people dropping out midway through matches if they are losing.  Yeah, people may still stick around for the loot, but I'm sure many won't.  For you guys that play a lot of PvP I hope it doesn't play out like that but it's apparently already happening.

I read if you fight with the iron banner emblem and shader on you gain more xp for a win and rank up you iron banner rep faster. If you lose you just get crucible gear.

Why don't they give you any loot if you lose?

You'll still get loot rolls at the end of the match, just not Rep?  I assume that is how it works.  Also, just an FYI for the PvP'ers, rumor has it that Iron Banner Gear is that way you hit 30 with PvP gear.  It's unconfirmed but might be worth looking into.

Funny, I've seen just the opposite.  People complaining that you won't be able to hit 30 with the new gear, lol.

I saw that too.  But how could you possibly confirm by looking at the vendor?  Both regular and Raid legendary gear have 5 upgrade slots.  The only difference is how many light you get from each upgrade.  So, until someone buys one and fully upgrades it I don't see how you could tell.  Am I missing something? If you got raid gear from somewhere else, would you have known you could get 30 light out of it?

By looking at what it takes to upgrade the pieces.  It takes 7 shards to upgrade the last 3 upgrades on raid gear.  The vendor gear shows 6, meaning it's normal legendaries.

Also, raid gear his higher defense ratings then regular.  The Iron Banner has the same defense ratings as normal.

Well, don't forget about the super secret lvl 30 Iron Banner Armor you get with random drops from being the worst player on the team.

i guess this is all i have to do left for this  week

as we (giraffe  knightowl and myself) finished the raid in 45mins   booth weeklys  all under 2 hours of the servers coming back on

was freakin\' super easy

and now hearing that iron banner is not  ilvl30 gear   im like meh about playing it might just wait till next tuesday to play destiny again  unless i r needed
got all my vendors to level 6  today for no reason at all

Iron Banner was a blast for the bit I played. You just demolish low levels. However meeting other high levels is interesting. It definitely takes a lot more to kill another level 29.

Really? I couldn't tell much of a difference. Maybe it's because you steam roll over most people, so of course it will be worse for lower levels who obviously haven't put as much time in. I killed level 20's as easy as 29's and I was 26 at the time without an upgraded (sharded) weapon.

For some reason, i'm doing much better in iron banner. I get about 10 to 15 kills a game and when i play regular crucible i only get 5 to 6 kills per game. (i know i'm bad) So i love iron banner.

Yeah, it could just be that I've played more and notice the differences. I'm going to try it out more extensively using my lame Shingen-E which dominates standard Crucible. So far the exotic weapons have been pretty OP

Still need nightfall, heroic weekly, and the raid, but besides that I will be down for iron banner tonight and tomorrow.

IDK, I played a few more games last night and still couldn't tell the difference. And looking at the stats, you have about 1800 kills and 115 games played, where I have about 1950 kills and 160 games played. So you really haven't played more, but are probably more observant and surely a better player, and probably roll through more easy anyhow.

Yeah there are a lot of reports of people disappointed with the IB.  Apparently, the level difference isn't all the big of a deal, if it's present at all.  Reports of lvl 4 bros wrecking kids with white guns etc...

Yep, the Destiny subreddit is flooded with people pissed about how bad IB is.

It's not that bad, it's just not that big a difference. Skill still trumps equipment, which is how it should be. It's not any noticeable difference. An average player like me with a 1.1 KD still ends up on average with a 1.1 KD. I mean, the law of averages has to work out. If I'm suddenly a 2.0 KD that means someone else is down below 0.5, and that isn't going to happen, or no one would play the game mode.

That's what most people are complaining about though.  The whole point of IB is that there SHOULD be a huge difference between people that are geared and people that aren't.  Paraphrasing most of the comments as I haven't played but that seems to be the number one issue by far.
