Interesting write-up, especially to see where each company cut/spent money.

It is interesting to see how much each company is loosing. To profit off the system, it has to be about half the cost to make in components as sell. There is the R&D and marketing that take a lot of money, not to mention the profit from the retail side of at a minimum of 10-20%. Then again, the more systems they sell, the more money they might re-coop with the built in advertisements on the dashboards (I'm assuming PS4 also has them).

Sounds about how we thought it would, that each company is making money on software and additional accessories, rather than the consoles themselves.  Also nice to know that until either the companies start to get close to that break even scenario or they reduce the manufacturing costs, the prices won't drop on the consoles anytime soon.
