Grand Theft Auto V launches at Midnight tonight and Rockstar Games provided a tip Monday for Xbox 360 owners when it comes to installing the game on the console's hard drive.

GTA V comes with a mandatory install for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 with the latter version coming with two disks. The first is an install disk that puts 8 GB worth of data on either the Xbox 360 hard drive or a USB flash drive. The second is the "play" disk which needs to be inserted whenever you want to play the game. However, Rockstar recommends not installing that second disk.

"For optimal performance, we recommend not installing [the play disk]. We will have more info on our Support Site at launch," the Rockstar Support Twitter account wrote.

This combination of an install disk and play disk is not unique for the Xbox 360 as Forza Motorsport 5 also came with dual disks. However, recommending not installing the play disk is somewhat new. The next closest example to installing a game on the hard drive degrading performance would be Halo 3 . The game was optimized to stream data from the disk which was somehow thrown off when it was on the hard drive. That appears to be the case with Grand Theft Auto V .h drive. I was feeling some Déjà vu reading that.

GTA5 looks like it will be a fun game to play, but with the current games I've already planned to get and with the new consoles coming soon, I'll be skipping this game.

Hmm, should be an epic game. Now to convince the wife to let me buy it rather than wait on new consoles...

Got mine shipping out today from Gamefly.  With as addicted as I am to Diablo 3 I'm not sure how much I'll play it at first, but at least it'll be sitting around, lol.

GameFly shipped mine today too.  It's going to be a long couple of days till it arrives.  It's already getting near perfect scores everywhere.  I can't wait.

Preordered from Amazon.  Had a $50 gift card and I get free 2 day shipping with Prime so I'll have it Thursday, which is the earliest I'll be able to play it anyway.

What will happen with this game once XB1 is released?
I "heard" a rumor that you will be able to trade/swap this game with the XB1 version for free upon release. Same with a few other games like Madden 25.....

Anyone???

GTA5 is NOT currently scheduled for release on the next gen.  Currently the only version to be available is the 360/PS3 versions.

Yeah, swapping this one won't happen since even if they do announce an XB1 release it won't be for quite a long time.  I'm guessing it doesn't come out on next gens at all.  They've made their money, time to work on the online aspect and planning for whatever they have coming next.

ok so GTA will not be XB1, but what about the second part of the question.
Games that are coming out now that WILL have an XB1 version. Will you be able to swap/trade? I think you'd have to add $10 as the new games will be about $70 instead of $60.

New games are $60 for the next gen.  Some games are offering a trade-up program, but I think it's for digital copies.  COD Ghosts and BF4 both have trade up options for an additional $10 with the digital version of the game.  Not sure about the physical copy editions.
