Season 2 D-Class Builds
Here's a spot where we can congregate about D-Class builds for the next event.
The Toyota MR2 is lookin good on paper so far. I'll put the tires to pavement later tonight for a proper diagnosis.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
right now I am working on a few cars
98 VW GTI BR6 Mk3
1970 Alph Romeo Montreal
1999 Honda Civic Si Coupe
1996 Impala SS
possibly more to come when I get more time to put into Forza and do some hot laps and see were some of these cars stand and if the need more tweaking.......

Big changes coming from camp Atrum this class.
OC that Mk3 is going to be very quick. Really all the ones you listed are cars I've considered.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
So I think my top two contenders right now are my Dino and my Axela Sport. I'd like to get some more speed out of the Axela but it should be good for short, curvy tracks. Still tinkering with the Dino and I might look into some other options depending upon how well the Dino and Axela perform on the current track list. I've shared the Axela for those of you that want to pick the tuning apart and offer suggestions. If I remember I'll do the same with the Dino.

MR2 is out. Too slow/too much grip. If I can't kick out the tail with the throttle there won't be enough grunt to pass anyone. So now its lookin like a toss up:
BMW 507
Shelby 500
Mercedes SL

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
Looks like it's going to be a toss up between the Dino and Fairlady for me. The Dino has been hotlapping better for me but I think if I put a little more tuning time in on the Fairlady that it might be my frontrunner. I'll probably use the Daisy Beetle for tracks that are a bit more curvy because it seems to do better than either of the other cars on those types of tracks. I also tried putting together a '99 Civic, but I just can't seem to get it to work the way I want.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
Fairlady and the mx-5 are my current front runners. I also tried getting the scirocco up a class but I don't think it's viable. Currently looking for a replacement for the fast/top end tracks.
Also... manual w/clutch transition happened. It's interesting.

Do you think you'll get it down well enough to get the clutch bonus and is it enough to make it worthwhile?

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
The bonus you get is that you don't lose speed/revs when shifting. Even in manual you'll lose revs or a couple mph depending on the speed/gear. With clutch you don't lose any revs or speed; it's a smooth transition.
As far as getting it down enough, we'll see. Doesn't seem like a very difficult change actually.

I just can't get it myself. Maybe I was doing it wrong but I was missing shifts and just generally being terrible at it so I went back to a normal manual. Hit me up next time we are on. I think it would help if I could talk to someone and have them explain it.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
Oh, I forgot... Back on topic. Right now my two front runners are:
Ferrari Dino
Alpha Montreal
I will most likely race one of these. Right now I am leaning towards the Montreal. I fixed one up last night and actually beat some of my times with the California 250, which is really saying something. More testing is required but it has a lot of potential.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
Ugh, that dino is scary. I saw some of the times you posted.
For me, the biggest thing was changing my control setup. Specifically:
Swap Handbrake/Clutch
This makes it so that LB is your hand brake, and A is your clutch. Then rather than hitting just B/X to shift, you hit A+B/A+X at the same time. You probably won't notice any difference at all up-shifting. Down shifting is the only thing I need to work on, I've killed my engine a couple times over-doing it.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
Ah! So it's not clutch then shift? You literally hit them at exactly the same time? That may make a difference.
P.S. It's not the Dino times you saw, the times currently posted are from the California 250 (last season). You don't want to go up against that thing. Be glad I retire cars after I have raced them officially or I would destroy with that car again. The scary thing is that I actually beat my times on Road Atlanta and Sunset with the Montreal. It has the makings of a beast.

Hmm, thought I saw it on Road Atlanta last night.
And yes, the key things I found (snooped around on the VVV forums)
-Do not let up on the gas, at all.
-Hit clutch and shift at the same time
I posted a top 1200 time in my mx-5 without remapping the buttons. (That means I was tapping handbrake and shift at the same time - slowed the car, over-revved the engine, and finally shifted). The figured it out and dropped down around the 800's and can definitely go faster. Now I just need another fast/high-end car. I don't think either of my current ones are quite there.
Edit: Why am I giving Interseptor tips to go faster??? ...

LOL! That is a valid question. At this rate not even Wiggles will be able to keep up with me!
I will have to play around with it and see how I like it. I will probably just stick with regular manual for the Tourneys but I am interested to see how much faster I can go.

Yeah, it's pretty interesting to say the least. On that ladera reverse track I would estimate I dropped over a second the first time I used it correctly. That was with poor braking and downshifts.
The most interesting thing I saw is you're able to really whip cars in to sustained turns. That big sweeping U turn I was able to enter about 10mph faster, and my sustained speed was also a few mph higher. From my ghost, I'd say I pulled close to a car length ahead with each gear shift.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
Yeah, I have gotten pretty comfortable with the standard manual. I will probably stick it out for this season unless you start consistently beating me. Fortunately I can usually post up top 1000-2000 times on most tracks so I am pretty comfortable with my performance.
I also like the A button e-break for drifting. While I could probably get used to standard track driving, downshifting and e-breaking for drifting would probably be hard to get used to with the clutch.
I guess I really just need to mess around with it more and see.

Yeah, I doubt I'll suddenly just start winning lol. I mean, Apex has been running no assists for quite a while and he doesn't roflstomp you, yet.

Re: Season 2 D-Class Builds
Mazda MX-5 is my frontrunner
I have the 79' Fairlady tuned as well. Both are pretty similar. Fairlady looks better on paper, mx-5 feels better on track.
Still in search of another AWD beast.
