USB Storage on 360!
Now this is what I'm talking about- no more over priced 360 Hard Drives. For those of you who don't see the news on our front page:

Documentation obtained by Joystiq - and subsequently confirmed with two separate sources - reveals that "USB Mass Storage Device Support on Xbox 360" will soon be a reality. The document, authored by a senior software development engineer at Microsoft, states that due to "increased market penetration of high-capacity, high throughput USB mass storage devices, a 2010 Xbox 360 system update" will allow consumers to save and load game data from USB devices. The update is purportedly coming in Spring 2010.
Once the update occurs, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download Xbox Live Arcade games, Xbox Live Indie games, Games on Demand, DLC and Title Updates to the storage device. "USB storage devices may, however, have far greater memory capacity than MUs (at the date of writing, the largest MU is 512 MB), and may therefore support previously infeasible operations-such as installation of a full disc-based title." That's right, you can also store disc-based games to the USB device; however, it will require the disc to be in the tray for authentication, identical to the current functionality.

Yeah but this doesn't mean that it will not just be Microsoft only USB hard drives. Think about it they just banned all other hard drives/memory units but ones they want people to use.

@ OC so true, what do they tell the people that got banned a few months ago during theFall update lol. That's low blow to all of those people who had to go get a new system.

Because that data could be tampered with. I'm guessing that when they roll this out the data will be VERY secure, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Especially when there could be full games on there.

Re: USB Storage on 360!
This is awesome news if you can use any usb drive. My 360's HD is as small as Sticky's junk. An external would really be a huge help for me. We will have to wait and see if it is just the Microsoft approved drives or most any drive. I'm betting on most any, but like Epic said, with some heavy data verification / anti tamper.

It looks like any hard drive right now, but they have to be specially "formatted" by the 360 to be usable. Check out the full article in the link.

Re: USB Storage on 360!
This only supports my conclusion that HD content dlc is the present and future not Blue Ray. M$ does have some smart money grubbin' bastards workin' for them. This will effectively start hammering the nails in Sony's coffin. Hook up thise inexpensive TB drives and load it up with your movies...

Yup, the faster the internet speeds increase the more dependant on content download the consoles will be come. Hell, the cloud may even be the future of gaming. You'd probably only need to buy one console.
Tbh, if MS took the OnLive concept of Cloud gaming and made a console version, then called it the 'Microsoft Cloud' they would get a RIDICULOUS amount of brand recognition as the phrase 'Cloud' becomes more and more significant in computing. Would surely help out their future cloud endeavours too.
I'm awesome.
