Splinter cell Demo
Well for anyone interested the Splinter cell demo will out tomorrow for dowload.
March 16, 2010 - A new video posted on Xbox Live today describes what players can expect to see in the Splinter Cell Conviction demo. The demo will be available on March 18th.
The demo starts in the bathroom interrogation scene that you may have watched in one of our videos. Then players will be transported to one of the later levels to show another "layer of the storyline."
Ubisoft hopes to show players how much the pacing has changed in the latest Splinter Cell title, which is supposed to be much faster than earlier installments in the series. The preview for the demo shows weapons like EMP grenades and upgraded tactical goggles that let Sam see through walls.

Re: Splinter cell Demo
Anybody get a chance to DL and play the Demo? How is it? I must admit that this is the first Splintercell I have been interested in for quite some time.

Never been a big Splinter Cell fan myself but I'll definitely be giving this a look when I get back.

Re: Splinter cell Demo
Not yet but I'm downloading it now looks like a pretty big demo so we'll see how it turns out.
Re: Splinter cell Demo
Probably my most anticipated game of the year and one of my favorite series ever....but d@mn the demo disappointed me. Another game streamlined for little A.D.D. kids who can't go a minute without fast-paced action and shooting things. Still might get it for the co-op but not 100% sure anymore

I agree with this 100%. I have absolutely LOVED every splinter-cell and have been a fan since the very, very beginning. This rendition, while kind of cool, seems off the mark. And while I could chalk problems with graphics or a random glitch up to it being 'just a demo', the problem here isn't either one. The graphics are excellent, and I found no glitches (besides dying and then having my xbox lock up at a black screen instead of restarting the mission, Hard Mode I guess?).
No, my biggest problem is that it doesn't feel like splintercell anymore. I found it easier to shot everything from a distance and hide in the shadows for when they decide to peek around the box where my Phantom is so I can break their neck, than to take my time and snap their neck from hanging overhead on a pipe, or pulling them off a railing, or knowing exactly how stealthed I was so I can sneak behind them and shank them.
While the interaction with "Shoot this thing above them and it will come crashing down" is cool, the emphasis that is placed on executing from afar, then meleeing one guy, then executing the next batch, is not what I play the series for. Case in point, when you get into the sewers to rescue the scientist, you have to worry about at least 12 guys, with little more to do than just shoot them all up one at a time. What happened to my being able to pick up a bottle, throw it, and sneak around behind them? Or their walking paths where I can take them out by choosing my location and target?
I'm going to wait for a review where I can see more gameplay before I spend money on this. As it is I need to go pick up a copy of ODST just so I can play the d@mn reach beta.
Edit: sh1t Garrett, I still remember the times Pheonix would kick my ass in Pandora Tomorrow. I miss those days.

I get what you guys are saiying and you're right BUT it is still possible to play Splinter Cell like Splinter Cell, it's just a lot more hassle and reliant on shooting out lights and using theEMP stuff. I was very disappointed that I couldn't drag guy's off railings and out of windows though, that kinda sucked.

I was d@mn near scandalized when I realized I couldn't pick up one guy's body and drag it into a dark corner. That was the last straw for me right there.

Re: Splinter cell Demo
Well, I might have to try this out. I really wasn't going to play the demo. Mostly because I don't like spoilers but based on your comments it seems I might need a closer look.

Re: Splinter cell Demo
I take back my comment about not being able to drag people over railing. I was just holding B too long. All is well again.
Agreed with Joe though, it would be nice to be able to grab bodies and throw cans and glass bottles, etc. Glass bottles do show up on the sonar view though, so I may try experimenting with shooting them.

Yeah, one thing I noticed is, that if you go through the door first, then the ledge guy isn't there. On my zillionth playthough I thought i'd be smart and take out the guy in the door first before going round onto the ledge. Was gutted when I climbed the pipe and he wasn't there. Falling EMP->DeathFromAbove->3 Executes->Headshot->Undetected = Win.

Re: Splinter cell Demo
I'm gonna get the demo today. I hope it's not as bad as you guys say. SC is one of my all-time favorite series. I am getting tired of all these games being "dumbed down" for the masses.
Remember the Bourne game? Is that what we're looking at here?
