Will this Laptop run Diablo 3?
Will this computer run D3 at or near it's highest settings? I don't understand the processor speeds with the different cores, and AMD vs. Intel. Also the graphics cards are super confusing depending on the brand, number, and the various prefixes and suffixes.
Any help would be appreciated.

For some reason I can't post links to Best Buy, so maybe this will work if you type in the "e" for the 3 in B3st Buy

Re: Will this Laptop run Diablo 3?
from what i can tell you should be able to play on a medium to low setting
CPU at 1.6ghz is not bad for a laptop and with turbo core on 2.5ghz is good !!!
the GPU AMD Radeon HD 6620G is not bad for an integrated card how ever if you would like to improve your over all gaming XP i would say upgrade the GPU
6gb or ram is a good amount windows alone uses 1 so that leaves 5 for the games
640gb hhd a great size !!! so win
ALL AND ALL
i would say yes it can run diablo 3 in its stock setting and even higher with a new GPU (graphics card)
idk if your dead set on a lap top but if your not i think a desktop would be a better pick
found this laptop the reviews are really good for gaming and comes with an upgraded GPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246328
almost all of its review are like this and 5 eggs out of 5 also free UPS ground 3 day shipping
here is a review for it i know you will love miller

Pros: Graphics are amazing. I have been playing Skyrim on high graphics and not a single lag given. I was really surprised. Yes, the finish is a bit purple, but that's my favorite color anyway. Most people put that as a con though. The speakers blew my mind. I blasted some Deadmau5 and Skrillex, surround sound is freaking awesome, some of the best speakers I have had on a laptop. For $550, this is a fantastic deal, too bad I missed the $500 sale. Everything works so far, already got my moneys worth.
Cons: Runs a tad hot running games, but not too unbearable. I wouldn't play an online game like BF3 or TF2 because the track pad can't register it fast enough. Easy fix is hooking up a mouse. Easy to remove Bloatware. I always hit the number lock when I want to hit back space, just have to get used to it I guess. Battery life isn't that great, just depends on what you use it on. Skyrim on high last about 45 minutes without being plugged in.
Other Thoughts: I just love everything about this laptop. I would suggest anyone that looks at this to buy it.
here is a review for it i know you will love miller
Pros: I was looking for a gaming/school laptop that wasnt gonna cost me more then $800 and i found it with this one. Runs League of legends on Max, SC2 on high - max. Im having no problems running Diablo 3 on high.
-Good Gaming laptop for the money

Nice. I may have to just get that.
I do want a Laptop, and besides D3 I really will not be playing any other games, and just want something portable. My kids PC is not working, so I can hand down my Sony Vaio and get me something new

Re: Will this Laptop run Diablo 3?
I am about to buy a rig for Diablo 3 (and a few other good reasons) also. I want it to perform at top level. The first thing to do is check the recommended specs:
OS: Windows® Vista/7 (latest service packs),
CPU: Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5600+ 2.8 GHz
RAM: 2 GB RAM
GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce® 260 or ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 or better
So yeah we all know we need the latest OS and a ton of ram; 6-8GB should be enough to run the game and music or a few other apps. What we want to look at is the CPU and GPU. I go to www.cpubenchmark.net and search by model "Core 2 Duo" and crtl+f'ed "2.4". I found benchmarks for these between 1374 and 1691. I am going to err on the high side I just built a rig for a friend and put in a Core 2 Quad Q6600 that has a benchmark of 2968 with tandem GPUs and all he does now is play SC2 and music.
So next look at the GPU. Go to the Video Card Benchmarks tab. You can look at charts or search by model. I found 2 Geforce 260's, one has an M after it which probably means it is Mobile aka a laptop (benchmark 706). I will assume they meant the desktop version (benchmark 1748). I can also plan for it to be worth $170.00
I didn't bother looking at AMD Athlon and ATI Radeon; I am confident the benchmarks will be very similar.
Now any computer I look at I can quickly search using the CPU and GPU models and compare them directly to the performance of the "Recommended" models. If you are buying a pre-made rig, laptop or desktop, this should work OK as long as you are buying from a legit company - some fly by nights will put good cards on a crap mobo. Noone lists chipsets for laptops anyway, so it is tough to check that. I always remove bloatware immediately, and recommend extra RAM. Hope this helps anyone getting ready for D3!

Re: Will this Laptop run Diablo 3?
The GeForce 580M and 485M are the only Nvidia laptop cards I see that meet the requirements. I can't find any laptops with the 485M nor can I find any with the Radeon HD6900 series. So, for laptops to run the highest settings they better have a 580M GPU. The 480M might cut it. Maybe even the 570M, which has some affordable models on amazon and newegg. The 580M's start around $1500, while the 570M's are around $1100. I wouldn't go much below that if you expect it to be flawless on the highest settings.

Re: Will this Laptop run Diablo 3?
I don't mind taking shadows off (saves a ton) and clicking it down a notch or two, but I would hate to be running on mid to low on a new computer- laptop or otherwise.
The one I was looking at from Best Buy had the
"AMD Radeon HD 6620G discrete-class" graphics with an AMD VISION A8 APU and 6 Gig memory-

Which is way lower than that.

Minimum requirement is Geforce 7800 GT which has a benchmark of 520. Or Radeon X1950 Pro benchmark 827.
That would make me cringe.
My prices are off - looks like $1500 is as good as it gets for top end laptops.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Never bought MSI and have not heard great things, but if it works it works.

I'll be glad to hear how that works out, as I was looking at the 15" MSI's at one time. I think I'll go sub $1K on whatever I get, even if I have to wait a while to get one.

Re: Will this Laptop run Diablo 3?
It met the specs I wanted and has an hdmi out. The solid state boot drive is a nice bonus. I'll need an external optical at some point, but this with this cooler http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZMF27G/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 should work. What I like about the cooler is that it doesn't rely on one big fan, the fans can be moved to problem spots, and they can be replaced easily. It also looks durable and simplistic.

My last desktop started out with an MSI mobo and that lasted for like 6 mo before I had to have it replaced with a different brand. I'm not sure if I got a faulty board or what but that will probably be the last time I buy from them, or at least it will be like a last resort. This happened like 4-5 years ago, so maybe their hardware is better now. Just an FYI.

Re: Will this Laptop run Diablo 3?
msi is a good company i think my last pc was almost all msi stuff...
the only thing i see with that laptop is its going to get freakin\' hot!!!!!
but if you get the fan placement down it should help ....
also later on you might want to look into a laptop dock that has some extra fans to help pull the hot air away .

To stay under a thousand on getting a machine that plays the game a decent level I would highly recommend building a desktop. Much cheaper and, if done right, heat will be no problem.
I sure hope I receive what I ordered.

Just found a great site - the link above shows how well each card runs different AAA games. Lots of other great charts there.

Scheduled to ship tomorrow and be here between the 14th and 16th. I'm real nervous now as I couldn't look up any past model from MSI with those exact specs and there's no model number listed. I fighting with the idea of cancelling it and going a different route.S7 Sticky wrote:S7 Coolhand wrote:

Cancelled my laptop order. It was supposed to ship May 9th or 10th but did not. The guy didn't have in in stock - I suspect he was ordering it from another site then marking it up for me. I have found I can get it for a few hundered cheaper. I'll give details when I decide who to reorder it from.

Agreed.
Seriously, just no.
Imagine a brand, as overpriced as Apple, only with a low quality, under-performing product. Can you see it yet? Yup, that's an Alienware laptop.
