Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Hey all. So I was just browsing around the "coming soon" area on gamefly.com and noticed this game was coming out in a few weeks. I had never even heard of it. I will say after checking it out and playing the demo that is on Xbox Live I'm pretty impressed. I'll definitely be giving this one a go. It actually fits into my style more so than Skyrim. I really like Skyrim, but there's just that "It's missing something" feeling for me. Maybe I'm just geared towards more colorful fantasy type games.
Anyways, here's a few youtube vids. Just figured I'd point out the game since so many here seem to be into RPG's. Also, like I mentioned, there is a demo on Xbox Live so check it out.
22 Minute Intro to the game...
Quick preview with some cool gameplay...
Combat Featurette...

Nice mix of elements from other games - I especially like the inclusion of gems and sockets like in WoW, and the hidden area discovery talent seems kinda cool. Good RPG elements combined with hack and slash should make for a fun game. I'll probably try the demo, but unless I'm blown away I will wait to buy it cheap or rent it. Good find Husker!

I wasn't overly impressed with the demo. I'm going to rent it anyhow, as the reviews seem to be good.

Yeah, there are some that feel the same as you. Sucks that they were stuck using code from that game that was from October. Every review and reviewer has said that the game is MUCH better than what the demo had to offer. I just have a feeling this one is going to be fun for me. I don't normally buy games, but this on hooked me for some reason. We'll see.

I though the controls and graphics in the demo seemed a bit clunky

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
The developers recently announced that a "speed run" of KoA's main quest and every side quest took roughly 200 hours to complete. And that's with already knowing exactly where to go, and what to do for every quest. And then they questioned if perhaps they might have gone a little overboard.
The main quest alone is supposed to clock in between 30-40 hours, if you just focus on that. I have no doubt there will be people going for 100% completion. I suspect it will take well over 200 hours. I also suspect it will take well over 400 hours if they stop to harvest every plant they see. Even just outside the Well of Souls I was stopping every ten seconds because another shiny harvestable was begging to be plucked.
The game is a nightmare for anyone who can't walk past a potential lootable.
I know for a fact there's no chance I'll see everything KoA has to offer, but I like knowing it's there nevertheless. Who knows, I find the combat far more enjoyable than anything Skyrim brought to the table, so perhaps once I really get into it, I won't be able to put it down.

If you like fantasy RPG's this game is for you. I've been putting TONS of time in playing this since it came out last Tuesday. This game is absolutely up my alley in terms of gameplay and artistic style. I don't buy many games but I'm very pleased that I bought this one.

No, it's single player.
38Studios (The company that made this game) is however working on an MMO that is rumored to be released later this year (currently set to release in September), but looking like that's going to be PC only. Currently it's called "Project Copernicus". The MMO is going to be in Amalur also (the same universe that Reckoning takes place.)

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Yeah the company that made this game is Curt Schilling's game studio. I guess that he's a super wizard when it comes to math and he's been a gamer for years so he bought a studio and is going to design games until he dies, rather than coach or be a commentator.

Re: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
DerangeMaverick, what do you think so far? Have you played it at all yet? I'm interested to see what others think here.
In my opinion anybody that is even remotely interested should at least rent this one.

One of you all need to write up a full review. I'm looking at getting this from GameFly after the up-all-night event and I return Halo Reach.
