Dangerous animals released....
I was watching the news this morning, and apparently last night a guy in Ohio decided to release his lions, bears, tigers, cheetah, wolves and other vicious animals on the public at large...then he shot himself in the head.
Meahwhile the cops are trying to round up over 50 different animals, all aggressive, vicious, and dangerous. Schools closed in the area for fear that while little Tommy is at the bus stop a Lion may appear from the woods behind the neighbors house WTF??!!!

Re: Dangerous animals released....
yeah, I read about that...WTH is wrong w/people? Not only was he selfish for committing suicide, but he added to that selfishness, but letting wild animals run free, endangering a community.
Re: Dangerous animals released....
I've stayed in Zanesville twice in the past year. That would have been crazy hard to explain how I wrecked the rental car when I hit a Bengal Tiger while trying to avoid the Grizzly bear!

This comment made me laugh. While this could be a potentially tragic situation, it's nice to see that something funny can come out of it.

LOL it's all fun and games until a kid gets mauled riding on his bike. Then it's not funny anymore. Right now it seems the cops have things under control and have a pretty good track on the escaped animals. One said he even took down an adult male tiger with his pistol ...lucky I thought those things needed more "jolt" than a 9mm to stop. He's a brave MOFO for even trying it.

I heard on the news the local authorities released a "shoot on sight" order for the community...I believe most of Indiana's "rural" population will be going on "vacation" for the week. Hopefully my neighbors will decide to go too.

LOL @ this quote from an interview...
"These are wild animals, wild animals that you would see on TV in Africa," - Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz
Wait, I have to go to Africa and see them on TV over there? Of course I know what he meant, still made me laugh.

Re: Dangerous animals released....
What's really tragic is they have now killed all the animals, none captured. 18 Bengal tigers dead because of that loser.

Exactly!!!S7 Coolhand wrote:What's really tragic is they have now killed all the animals, none captured. 18 Bengal tigers dead because of that loser.
Leave the animals where you find them people. You're not doing them a service by removing them from the wild, where nature intended them to remain. Now beautiful and majestic animals are dead for no reason.
Among the animals killed: 18 Bengal tigers, 17 lions, six black bears, one baboon, two grizzly bears, three mountain lions and two wolves.

Re: Dangerous animals released....
This was most likely a rescue park. Therefore the animals were bought by someone else, then when they decided they didn't want them any more or couldn't care for them, they abandoned them to a rescue park (like a shelter/pound for exotic animals). The bad thing is, a zoo will not take animals like this that have been kept as a pet and more importantly do not have proper papers (for zoo breeding programs). So instead of being placed somewhere where someone could actually care for them and they could be enjoyed by the public, they are shuttled off to some cramped and improperly staffed "animal park".
Also, they didn't have tranks for that on hand, and when they arrived on the scene they pretty much had to put the animals down or risk them escaping. Zanesville is not a big city, and I imagine they don't have tranquilizer guns readily on hand to take care of 1000 pound animals.

Re: Dangerous animals released....
The sheriff said in the interview posted above that they had no intentions of trying to capture the animals, probably because they don't have the tools/resources, as Miller said.

Re: Dangerous animals released....
The real tragedy is that there are only about 1400 Bengal tigers left in the world. They will soon become extinct, which means when I have grandchildren they will never see an actual bengal tiger.

Re: Dangerous animals released....
Sad that they had to just kill the animals.
I'm more curious how on earth they killed the grizzly bears. No way some little pistol is going to do that job, they must have gotten some firepower out.
Even in a small town you would think they could use, say a telephone, to get qualified people in to capture the animals. I really hope it wasn't some 'finally a chance to use our guns' type of thing.

Re: Dangerous animals released....
They called out the Ohio zoo and Jack Hanna who is also in Ohio for the rescue attempt. Honestly I think by the time they got there it was a done deal. Once they got there they began to save some and a few ended up in the Ohio zoo, but those were the giraffes and monkeys mostly, not the big cats.

It's very....very sad. I've been a conservationist all my life...I don't understand the mentality of killing anything other than for food. I feel bad when I see a squirrel on the side of the road.

Well to be fair you really can't have massive predators walking around an environment they're not used to that has children and families outside.

You know that the deputies were sitting around thinking we can get someone to rescue the animals or we can have a once in a lifetime Ohio safari... all hands were up to vote safari.
