Blizzard is actively experimenting with a console version of Diablo III, the game's director has confirmed.

Speaking to PC Gamer, Diablo III director Jay Wilson commented that the game shouldn't be limited to PC.

"We don't see ourselves as a PC developer – we see ourselves as a game developer. It's just that the games that we wanted to make suit the PC platform," Wilson said. "We don't believe you can make a Starcraft style RTS and make it Blizzard great on a console. We do believe you could make an RTS that would be on a console, but we would have (to have) that idea, and that spark and that passion to make it."

Wilson added that Diablo III may be the perfect game for the transition to consoles.

"One of the reasons why we're exploring the idea of a console version of Diablo 3 because we feel that the controls and the style of the game lend itself to a console," he said. "With some of our early experiments in putting a direct control scheme into the game via a 360-like analogue controller, I've been 'Oh this feels even better, with direct control.'"

Even if Diablo III does branch out to consoles, Wilson confirmed that it will retain its mouse controls.

"I can pretty much guarantee that if we decide to do a console version that we will look to support a pad on the PC," he added. "But initially with release I don't think we'll be ready."

A release date for Diablo III has not yet been announced, but its beta is currently underway.

yupp no life , and also steam and blizzard is in the process of expend the same worlds games aka over more then pc or xbox or ps3 so hopfully at one point you will be able to play friends on pc from xbox and xbox from pc

Diablo is a great. I'm a bit biased as I used to spend about an hour each day getting the worst PC ever to start the first Diablo. Then for 2 I had more hours spent on my mules than I've put in on most xbox games. So, it's a lot of fun. From what my friends have said is that if you start out alone, it's not that fun. Once a friend shows you the ropes you're hooked.

If I remember right, when you purchase the game you sign over your soul so there's no worry about it eating your soul. I'm pretty sure that I have the claim check for mine in the box of my copy of Diablo 2.

Can you imagine tooling around the dungeons with 4 or 5 friends on XBL, your characters like 5-6" tall and in HD on a 50+ inch screen... that will be badass!

I remember trying to break characters on Diablo 2. I had to "steal" my sister's laptop cuz that was the only machine we had that would play it. I'll probably get it for the computer, but if it comes out for the 360 that will be where I'll be.
