I think Red Dawn really was awesome because of one reason....everyone thought it was going to happen. At that time we thought at any moment that the Russians were going to roll up with tanks, planes, and 1million paratroopers. That really made the story believable and got most of the people who watched the movie at that time to "buy into it". The Cold War was in full swing.
