1968 Camaro SS
This is the car I am thinking about buying. I'm sure I can negotiate the price down. I want to add a chin valance (spoiler),a trunk spoiler, and window tinting. Other than that, this car is dead on to what I was looking for. Any insights from you guys? Things to look for? good or bad? I've already been going back and forth with him on the many add-ons.

There is also a video on the towards the tabs at the top of the page. It is not the best quality, but given the junky camera it still sounds good.

she looks very clean ... !!!!
i will go look in to it a little better here in a bit but she is sexy
19,500 does not sound like a bad price off the bat. looking at the video it looks like he has done a good job rebuilding that eng and the cam in it is nice!!!
only thing i see is it might not be street legal in TX

Re: 1968 Camaro SS
As all the above have said BAD ASS!!!!!
1. Is it a real "SS" or clone? Vin can tell you and makes a BIG price difference.
2. If it's a real "SS" it's on the low side of the price range already.
3. While not outrageous .060 over for a 396 unless the block was checked for thickness is a little further than I would want.
4. Was the machine work professional with a reputable company or done in a port a john in the back yard?
5. Could be the video doing weird things but the hood looked like it lined up funny.
6. As far as add on's tint the windows if you must but leave it alone otherwise, Somethings don't need to be messed with.
All in all it sounds awesome and If you get it I hate you....That is all.

Re: 1968 Camaro SS
VERY nice, brings back really good memories. I'm a Mustang guy from the core but I started my "muscle car" madness on a '68 SS just like that (Red) with my cousin. I was about 10 he was around 17-18 and taught me everything I know about cars, engines, women, beer (way later)...you name it! Great, great memories. I say pull the trigger...looks like a winner.
I also agree if you do something maybe light tint but otherwise don't screw around and add something that will take away what you get day one.

Re: 1968 Camaro SS
Wait...I never did notice how many miles on it...
Edit: It says "It hasn't been driven 500 miles since restoration" but doesn't really say specifically--and then this:
Odometer Reading
N/A
(?) So...it has a brand new engine? Be careful...LOL Who knows why he'd be selling something like this anyway it's an obvious collector's item and he could get more. Could have just recovered from flood damage or something. SUSPECT......

Re: 1968 Camaro SS
thinking we might have to drive up there and check it out in person.
there are lots of places to look for rust and sh1t, engine work, pipes underneath, and the interior. i think a first offer of 15K is a good place to start and see where it goes depending on seeing it up close.

I never found out if it is a true ss or not if it is then 19 is already the low side of the value.

Re: 1968 Camaro SS
The guy seems legit with all of his emails. The fact that the HP for a stroked 396 (with a 420 lift comp cam and many accesories) only comes to 325, seems a bit low to me. The only real way to find out is to take the car to a dyno if I drive up to see it. I don't think he'd go for that though.

Re: 1968 Camaro SS
Of course he sounds truthful in the emails. Doubt he'll allow a dyno. But a good test drive (I mean really hammer it for a few quick burst) should let you know if the oil leaks etc.
Since he said "somewhere" around 500 miles on a rebuilt engine it may not be beyond the magical break-in point. In which case you could be in a world of trouble if he didn't break it in properly. During the break in period, mileage should have been put on gradually, not all at once. Hammering the engine for short periods of time causes increased ring pressure against the cylinder walls and helps to seat the rings properly. I get suspicious why he went through all that trouble to rebuild then immediately put her on the market....but that's just me.

You would want to see two guys at the drag strip. However, I'll buy a camaro when I find one that I don't have some bad feeling about.
