Re: top gear
The pursuit of perfection huh?
You can tell a man by the car that he drives, the type of lady he allows to keep him company, and the liquor that he drinks. I personally would never drive a Lexus--which is nothing but an expensive Toyota. Let me explain...
For the most part they are the same. Some of the Lexus engines have a little different camshaft profile so they can say that they have 10hp more than the toyota engine. The LS series V-8 engines are not available in Toyota Cars, The LX470/570 is the same engine as the Tundra/Sequoya/Land cruiser. The RX330/350, ES300/330/350 is the same as the Camry, Solara, Sienna, Highlander engines. They are very similar and most all the parts cross between them. I have removed Toyota engines and installed lexus engines and vice versa. You need to also remember that Lexus was a USA version of Toyota's luxury car. The same cars built with the Lexus name were sold as Toyota's in other countries until 2006. That was done for the perception of a Luxury brand, even though the cars were the same as the Toyota's. It is all in a brand name. The Lexus warranty is better and they stand behind the cars a little better than Toyota does though, due to a different cost.
In the end they're all P.O.S. foreign crap that the brakes don't work and the accelerator sticks. Toyota knows and doesn't care. Personally I care more about my family than to drive them around in such a piece of sh*t vehicle.
Here's something to chew on:

Re: top gear
The ST version perhaps?
The Focus ST definitely has better handling than a Mustang...it would r@pe it around a track.

In most circumstances, I agree with you, but in this case we aren't talking about you daddy's Lexus. We are talking about the LF-A...
There ain't no Toyota like this bad boy. $350,000 Super car and Lexus' first foray into that world.

"There ain't no Toyota like this bad boy"
Wrong, that bad boy is a Toyota...You can decorate cow sh1t, but when you're done all you have is cow sh1t just the same.
I understand where you're coming from and I'm not saying the LF-A isn't sweet and more powerful than any Lexus parked at McDonald's, but you're missing a major point I'm making...no matter what the model, price, etc. EVERY LEXUS IS A TOYOTA. Even your precious LF-A.
Plus if I had $350,000 I can think of a lot better use than a fancy Toyota.
If you think because you pay that much you can pull up next to some guy in an Aston Martin and get respect, you're wrong...he'll laugh at your little Toyota trying to be what it's not meant to be.

Hmmm..amazingly this is the same concept, design, and appearance they had set aside for the Toyota Supra. Maybe it's just me?

Re: top gear
No, your point was received and understood. And I agree with you for the most part, especially when they "rebadge" a Toyota and call it a Lexus. But each brand has it's own cars that are unique and you can't go around lumping the whole brand together just because it's owned by another company. Yes, they use Toyota parts but that doesn't make them a Toyota. When a car is designed, built and tested from the ground up as a new product, it becomes unique.
You mention Aston Matrin. Let's take that for example... Is a DB7 nothing more than a Ford Mustang? It uses many of the same parts (and other various ford parts) and is owned by Ford Motor Company. Is a Land Rover nothing more than a Ford Explorer? Or a Jaguar nothing more than a Lincoln? Ford owns them as well. Where do you draw the line?
Let's face it, there are only a hand full of major manufacturers out there and most of them have a hand in multiple smaller companies. It's just the way things work. It is my opinion that each car should be judged on it's own merit, not which company owns them. In the case of the LF-A, I was simply pointing out the it was designed from the ground up by the people at Lexus and that it is not simply a "rebadged" P.O.S. Toyota. It is very much it's own car just as a DB7 is an Aston Martin and not a Ford.

Not even close. Do some "real" research and you'll find the LF-A is in a completely different class than this Supra Concept.

Re: top gear
Touche' sir...
Just so there was no misunderstanding. There were Lexus owners out there that didn't realize they were driving a Toyota until the MASSIVE recalls. They were saying stuff like "Why am I getting a recall letter?" NO B.S.!! I have a neighbor that asked me that. I said, because you drive a P.O.S. but he's cool...so it was all jokes.

A tuned RS versus a tuned Mustang would be close but it seems you underestimate how important handling is, hence why the Veyron isn't setting any fastest laps anywhere. The Mustang may take on tracks Nurburgring (the full track, not the old F1 track) but on tracks where the straights aren't excessively long the RS would take it. The bhp/tonne difference is only about 30bhp, so it would be very hard to set a faster lap in a mustang unless the track really suited it.
