MLB off season moves Empty MLB off season moves

so far the red sox have made some nice pick ups.
Adrian Gonzales being the one I am most excited about. He should bring back that second big bat threat that the Sox have been missing for a few years now.
Second move is the signing of Carl Crawford. I think they over paid him but that seems to be the way the market is going this off season. He is very athletic but his style at the plate is not your typical patient redsox type batter.
Looking forward to more moves during the hotstove sessions.

Red sox added Bobby Jenks to the Bullpen. The soxs are still looking to add more depth to the bullpen this offseason can't wait.

i tell you like I tell everyone Droopy...give it a few games, wait until the end, pay attention and learn to keep score and you too will become a fan. There is no game greater.

To bounce this thread now that spring training has arrived (and to answer the initial question about off season moves) the Phillies hands down have the most vicious pitching rotation I've ever seen in my life with Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt, and Lee

You know how we baseball guys like stats, and the most recent rotation to beat the SNLVAR was the 1997 Braves!

SNLVAR - Support Neutral Lineup-adjusted Value Above Replacement which is a cumulative win based statistic that measures the value of starting pitchers in wins. In short, it uses previous wins, ERA, IP, WHIP, K/BB, CG (complete games), and SHO or shutouts to measure a starter's effect on his team's chances of winning each game he pitches, credits (or debits) the pitcher a portion of a win for each of his starts, adjusts those totals for the strength of the opposing lineup and the run support the pitcher received, adds up all those partial wins, and compares it to all other MLB pitchers.

1966 Dodgers
Sandy Koufax 13.4
Don Sutton 7.1
Don Drysdale 6.3
Claude Osteen 5.7
Total 32.5

1997 Braves
Greg Maddux 10.0
Tom Glavine 8.2
John Smoltz 7.4
Denny Neagle 6.8
Total 32.4

2011 Phillies
Roy Halladay 7.9
Cole Hamels 6.85
Cliff Lee 6.35
Roy Oswalt 5.50
Total 26.60

That 97 staff of the Braves was awesome...combined in Mark Wohlers as the closer and they were a tough club to beat.

If we're screaming out old pitchers I'd take Goose Gossage myself. The inventor of the setup/closer that every team in baseball uses now (Yankees 1978)...plus he had that bad@ss handle bar mustache to intimidate you while he's on the mound.

NICE!!!

The true legends should have their own game, or at least like the NBA2K11 Jordan edition and throw all the old-timers and old ballparks in the game.

Would love to pitch with Koufax + Nolan Ryan!

Or play with my all time favorite Pete Rose...eventhough he's not a Yankee I love that guy! Gotta put together a petition to get him into the hall of fame. Maybe years ago a few bets on baseball was a "bad" thing but compared to the sh*t players are doing nowadays it's pretty small potatoes.

Roy White had the weird "touching toes" pointed toe stance, and held his bat low around his waist-- but Phil Plantier from the Red sox used to have that really low, knees bent, almost to the ground stance.

Soon this thread will be moved to MLB 2011 and I can't wait for the regular season. Got to see a lot of prospects the Yankees are looking at today for the first spring training game vs. the Phillies. Noticed they're looking at outfielder Andruw Jones from the Braves/White Sox. There's a 10 time Gold Glover, 5 time All-Star looking to provide his services to the Yankees. Not quite the Andruw of old, but could get back to the old days of putting up great numbers. He did get caught stealing sliding into second after a walk-- but it's grapefruit ball and everyone's trying to get their legs under them. I think we'll have a good season...Look out Red Sox (Crawford and Adrian G.) the Yankees are coming!
