dashboard update starts

tomorrow so if you are planing on playing turn your box on before you really want to play and start the update!!!!

I thought the update was on the 4th?

got an email today saying it was going to kick off tonight

Yeah I got the same email...it should only take 5-10 mins

Anything in particular that it's doing

new dash is ok a little to kiddish on a few thing i blame kinect for that ..

voice connection sounds more like your on the phone (going to love speaking to little kids now squeak squeak)
ESPN3 if your internet provider supports it is cool alot cheaper then buying it for your tv.

I like everything except the white boxes used to manage everything. Overall it looks to bland and makes me have to squint to read peoples names sometimes (20/15 vision).

This was the reason my XBL was getting the error messages right? So what do I have to look forward to once I get home? A completely revamped "Kiddie"dashboard? Can I choose to keep the original?

I don't think so, I've looked for that option because the GUI for the guide button menu looks horrible. White center with White selection color on the active tab, and everything looks so freakin' Boxxy. I miss the curvature of the menus from the previous version already within the first couple minutes of messing with the new Dash.

Also, If you were using the Bungie 2008 holiday theme as your background like I was... it broke, and won't be displaying anymore.

I had an XBL message yesterday supposedly from M$ saying they were having problems and I needed to go to account maintenance on the web. I ignored it and have had no issues. Anyone else get this message?

ESPN3 is cool and all, but I was really hoping for ESPN 8. The Ocho owns!

Looks like they just ripped the GUI from PES, it's awful. I'm fairly sure I caught eye-AIDs from browsing my cheevo's.

New Zune music is nice. If anyone has the Zune pass, this is one of the best additions they have added. Really nice to have the integration here.

The updated Netfix is better too. Now you can search to see if that movie you vaguely remember for the 80's is available for streaming. Dragonslayer FTW!!!

The first thing I did after the update was check to see how ESPN3 was. It was sexy.

Then I went to watch Mallrats on Netflix

yeah...checked out ESPN first. Like it a lot.

Ok, so I am all for new features but am I the only one who thinks this update sucks balls. Aside from ESPN/Netflix, they basically made everything worse. The party chat voice quality SUCKS! And the "new" style is annoyingly bright white and kills me every time I hit the Xbox button. And I say "new" because I am pretty sure it was pulled directly from the mid 90's. Hey Xbox, Windows 95 called and wants its theme back. Actually that's not fair, since you could actually change the theme on windows 95.

Sorry about that, but I really do HATE the new theme set up. The dashboard is actually fine but anytime you are in the menus I start to get a headache. The in-game friends list built into COD:BO is starting to sound like the greatest invention ever...

I only use my reach friends list now lol. Audio sounds more like the people actually do now. So quality is way better but it has some weird things now.

It's super obvious they're going to release pay themes to get away from the painful white. Good way for them to make money, albeit lame.

I agree 100%, don't know about the chat function,havent used it yet. I think it sux that you HAD to update it, bring back the OG blades, The dash is to busy for me but at least you can still hide some channels and my CODBO theme still works

QFT - I was playing ODST last night, found a good place to stop about 12:30am, quit to the lobby and then I made the mistake of opening the guide so I could get to the dashboard. I was playing for hours in the dark at this point and I seriously thought my eyes were going to explode. It was not possible for the dashboard to load fast enough.

Ditto. This is kinda garbage and I hope that there's a patch to change the color scheme at least. I don't have terrible eyesight (pause to adjust glasses) but I'd like to be able to set the colors to something with a little better contrast, even windows lets you change color schemes.

You can avoid the update by... well... not connecting to inet. Not that I have a choice - once I get back home I'm sure I'll experience the same joy as yall. Cool to hear about Netflix upgrades - it really needed a search function.

Yes- the white blocks gotta go. I haven’t’ tried the voice chat yet to see the differene, but I like all of the “content” updates- ESPN3, Netflix, Zune Music, etc. What I don’t like are all the “style” updates. Hopefully you will get some themes that can change at least the colors of the backgrounds (why you can’t do this already is beyond me).

Like I mentioned before, the Zune music is great. I wish they would open it up to more formats like Rhapsody or whatever Best Buy sells. I think the Zune pass songs only play on Zune, 360, Windows, and the new Windows phones, though any songs purchased (including your 10 free songs a month) are DMR free MP3’s that can play on anything. I wish they would do a Zune video pass too, but that would be in competition with Netflix- which is not a bad thing.

I still want a browser on the 360, and how about some of those new Windows Aps for the windows phones? Now that there is Google TV, why doesn’t MS jump on IE and aps for 360? They are going to be late to the party again. IE is already loosing market share, and if they could coordinate it from your PC to 360 to the new Windows Phones, they might be able to save some users. Seeing as Sony already has Google TV on BluRay players and TV’s, it might be only a matter of time before it’s a DL for the PS3 and you can ditch the clunky PS3 browser (you could run Linux on the PS3 already, why not Android?). If you get a Google/PS partnership with the games, BluRay, streaming, web browsing and add in Android aps- the PS3 will “Simply do everything” and is going to continue to rise and overtake the 360. I say MS jump on board first before it’s too late.
