TOP 10 Games of 2011

So... I have been putting a lot of thought into the games that I got to play in 2011. It was a great year in gaming and I played a lot more than I realized. It wasn't until I decided to sit down and make this list that I realized just how many good games I have played this year. There was a lot to sift through but I made a list of pretty much every decent title I played and went to work. Now I had a few restriction when making this list; 1st - Every game on the list has to be played within the 2011 year and 2nd - The game also had to be released within the 2011 year. No run over's from last year and some titles missed the list completely because I did not get to play them yet (most notably Assassin's Creed Revelations and Dark Souls). And even though I am pretty sure both of those titles would make the list I will not put them up. So, without further ado, Here it is...

While I know that RDR was a 2010 game, I got it way late in 2010 and finished the game in the early months of the 2011, so I broke with Zak's format and put it on my list. I pretty much played RDR until DA2 came out, so I felt it was worthy of being on my list.

yeah, honestly!

That would have been on my list but I didn't end up getting it since I put so much time into other games thru the year. I played RDR until I got DA2, DA2 until I got Forza 3 and L.A. Noire, and then I played those into the Forza 4/BF3/MW3/Gears 3/SKYRIM crush of games. I didn't really play a lot of sports games this year since there were so many fantastic games that came out.

It's alright Mav. Most of these guys have Gamefly and play every game of the year. I usually buy everything so I didn't play a ton of games either. I don't usually buy as many games as I did this year and I had to put a 2010 game on my list to round out a complete list of 10.

I can't believe I see Rage on here before I see Crysis 2. I'll have to post mine up shortly.

I'm going on the games I enjoy most. Not the academy type votes for what is best, but what I truly have fun with and enjoy.

So my top 10 would be-

10. Mortal Kombat
9. Battlefield 3
8. Torchlight (XBLA)
7. Two Worlds 2
6. Dead Space 2
5. Modern Warfare 3
4. Dead Island
3. Crysis 2
2. Skyrim
1. Portal 2

Honorable mention would have to go to Black Ops, as it was released in 2010 but would be in my top 5 for this year at the least.

I think Crysis 2, Two Worlds 2, and even Dead Island are unappreciated to some degree, and were all great games. Skyrim is great, but is such an obsession some days I have very little fun playing it (LOL). Portal was just perfect. The humor, challenges, action, and skill made it my favorite for the year. (Note- I have not played many of the big titles like Batman or Uncharted).

My top five Stinkers/Disappointments of the year would have to be:

5. Rage
4. Homefront
3. Duke Nukem
2. Dungeon Siege 3
1. Brink

They were all just flat out bad (Dungeon Siege) or major disappointments (Rage) or both (Brink!).

I really had a lot of trouble with the bottom half of my top 10. Crysis 2 was in the mix but I wasn't thrilled with the single player portion of the game. And for me, while MP is important, I generally judge a game based off it's SP experience (there are always exceptions - see BF3). Crysis 2 was good and it probably had the best MP system of any game this year. Definitely deserves honorable mention but for me Rage was a better SP experience. I loved the art direction of that game. The world felt original (as original as a post apocalyptic world can be). The characters you ran into were unique, varied and interesting. Voice acting was great, graphics were amazing and gameplay was spot on. Yes, it ended a little abruptly but overall I think it was a very good game.

Well I didn't play 10 games in 2011, that came out in 2011, I was still playing red dead, blk ops, fallout vegas, and Alan wake. Here is my top games

Haven't played rage or batman but I bet they would be up there

Homefront was weak
Duke nukem was a pile of doodoo
Brink was the biggest disappointment since wolvirene the movie

I thought the single player in Crysis 2 was great, the setting and graphics for a destroyed New York won me over the generic badlands of Rage. Plus the vehicle part of Rage was just terrible (story was weak too). But to each his own, that's why we have lists- LOL.

Haven't played Batman, Gears 3 or LA Noire yet but want to.

Homefront was fun but left a lot to be desired - still enjoyed it though.

Dragon Age 2 was terrible gameplay but I still enjoyed the story.
