Need internet off the grid
I'll be moving in a year or so and its out on top of a mountain. I've looked at hughes net and looks pricey for the data cap they provide. Is there an alternative solution for this anyone knows about? Would a cellular modem that uses LTE, 4G, and 3G instead of an ISP work? Any ideas would be great!

I remember a company in my home town that would have a special dish they provide, and it would just point towards a cell tower. Not sure if that is the same thing as LTE or not. Basically its a line of sight connection. So it would be sh1t during a storm.

Well, I worked at an ISP in the middle of the mountains for years.
Satellite internet blows. Don't do it unless you have to.
Any cell based service (at this time) is going to run into data cap issues pretty quickly.
If there is an ISP around, they likely have WiMax (what panzer was talking about). It's basically a wireless connection that requires line of site. If you're actually on top of a mountain, odds are you will have good signal (for the area).
tl;dr - it totally depends on where you move to and what their infrastructure is. Check local ISPs first to see what they have. It's probably your best option. Cellular data is probably next best option. Satellite if you have literally nothing else to choose from.

Gotcha, yeah its so far out not many ISP would quote me without calling first. Plus we don't even have electricity (power lines) we are going off solar farm, so they'd have to lay cables and everything so thats going to be out.

Solar only? That's rough. I know we had a hydro-powered house (gas generators supplementing) that could still get WiMax service out in the mountains. I wouldn't count on a good gaming experience unless you get lucky with cell service or a local ISP.

Re: Need internet off the grid
I have figured it out. We are going with Fixed Wireless internet. Basically i put a dish on the roof and it sends a signal to the nearest tower asking for internet and the tower sends it internet. They said it would only have latency of about 10. 20 down and 10 up with no data cap. That was the biggest selling point. lol those numbers are just ok to game with lol
There was a deal i couldn't pass up.
Basically a guy with a lot of money found a 800 acre ranch and wants to invest and build it up the sell it in about 10 years. He needs someone to run it so he told my dad he'd give him 200 acre as payment for running the place. (My dad and i had already thought about getting land together) so he offered me 25 acres of his 200 to help out on the land and work the animals. Whatever we put into it we get that percentage back the he sells. So if my dad builds a 100,000 house and that amounts to 10% of what its worth now whenever he sells it he would get 10% of that profit.

Sound like the first thing you need to start doing is running fiber to give the place some kick ass interwebs 😂
