I don't think I could get into regular watching soccer when the games don't mean so much. I'm just like every other American that gets excited around the World Cup and then will pretty much forget about it until the Women's World Cup next year, lol. Although I have been into it WAY more than before so who knows.

I think that the USA versus Germany game was the only (almost) full game of soccer I've ever watched. Went to a sports bar for lunch with my fellow co-workers, but half way into the second half the signal was lost because of a storm that was rolling through at the time. I pretty much called that Germany was going to win after watching 10 minutes of the game. USA looked like they were good at defense, but not at offense. USA couldn't even make any decent attempts to make a goal with the only one worth noting was the one that went over the net. Looked like they were having trouble passing the ball to each other where it counted most and they were making a good habit of tripping Germany's players. Not saying that Germany didn't trip USA players, just that USA was doing it a lot more. These observations are coming from a person whose soccer IQ is extremely low by the way haha.

Yeah, I don't know many soccer terms. I believe everyone was calling it flopping, which sounds more appropriate than "tackle" from the looks of it.

There are legitimate tackles but there's also a lot of flopping to get fouls called. It's the biggest part of soccer that I can't stand. A good tackle an be a great thing to see if done right.

A sliding tackle is not in itself foul play, however there are a number of fouls that commonly occur during the execution of a sliding tackle.
Examples of such fouls punishable by a direct free kick or penalty kick include:

When a player tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball;
When a player in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
- kicks or attempts to kick an opponent;

- raises his/her football boots perpendicular to the field (colloquially known as "studs up").

Incidently for the first time ever I got called for "excessive force" on a tackle a couple weeks ago. It was clean but I fucked that dude's world up. 2 minute penalty (indoor rules).

A lot of the bad passes on both sides can be chalked up to the torrential downpour they had that morning. They almost postponed the game as that area of the rainforest got 30% of its monthly total in just a few hours.

Nigeria played well against France but broke down at the end. Germany should have blown out Algeria but they hung tough until OT. Nothing unexpected today but valiant efforts by the losing sides.

Went about as well as could be expected. We scored that late goal and really should have equalized. Still, USA was a lot more into the tournament this time. Should help bolster the MLS and youth teams, hopefully improving the squad in the future.

I'm not a huge soccer fan and I know Brazil is missing their best player and another that is good but really. The keeper looks totally out of position and like he isn't trying. Wow Brazil

That was the defenses fault, not the keeper. There were 10 other guys on the field that could have stopped those before you can blame the keeper. Their defense looked like a sieve. Not having Thiago Silva hurt, and the offense looked untreated in without Neymar, but no team should be that crippled without 2 from its 23 man roster.

Neymar is a huge pussy BTW.

Well, WC is over and the best team won. GER deserved the win - the goal was beautiful. Goetze made a technically perfect stop of the ball with his chest and kicked it in midair to score. cheers

Went as expected for me. It was an intense, close, and entertaining finish to a great WC. I won a 12 pack of beer from a teammate who though Messi could defeat the entire German side solo.
