Re: XB1 June update rolling out today...
ok so I know someone has probably answered this, but are there specific external storage units that will be compatible (is there an actual M$ one?) or will any 3.0 USB external drive work right off the shelf? As long as it's about 256GB of space.
I have a 4TB external which cost me $130 from newegg. Will this work or do I need to purchase something else?

As long as it's USB 3.0 and equal to or larger than 256GB. I see no reason why yours wouldn't work (Major Nelson had a 4TB drive), but remember that it will format the entire drive to the XB1 and can only be used for the XB1.

I was reading you can install your games to your external HD, then move it from Xbox One to Xbox One. That's pretty cool!

Yep, you can have your games on your external HD and take it to a friends house and plug in your drive and play on that Xbox One. As long as you are playing on your profile you are good to go no matter the console.

But do you still have to put the disc in your friends drive? Basically what's stopping me from renting the game, copying to external drive and returning the game, and then playing the game either offline or online. I don't really see this as that big of a deal except saving the dl time at the friends house. And I assume it really only helpful if you bought the digital copy only, which I thought you could do that without the hdOneBadHuskerFan wrote:S7 mrmiller wrote:I was reading you can install your games to your external HD, then move it from Xbox One to Xbox One. Yes this is for digital downloads. You would still need the disc for games installed on it just like you do with game installed on the Xbox

But if you were to take the disc to a friends house, you would still have to install it to their hard drive before playing. So it would still be faster if you have an external HD, but it is definitely more for digital downloads.
