Post by S7 Interseptor Tue Apr 15, 2014 11:48 am

The newest Trials game launches tomorrow.  Anyone else excited to get this one?  I know I am.  Check out the trailer to wet your appetite...

And the MP trailer (my personal favorite) ...

Now tell me that does not look awesome.

Couple things since I'm not familiar with this series:
1.) How much does it cost?
2.) Has this been popular with the clan in the past?
3.) Is there interest in this version?

It does look fun, and I've never played Trials, but is a simple arcade game worth $40?  I'm kind of wanting to get it to take up some space between now and ESO, but I'm just not sure.

OK so, here we go...

1) $20 for the standard version - $40 for the deluxe version while will include all 6 future DLC packs
2) Yes, several of us have played and enjoyed Trials in the past.
3) Within the PS4 division, yes.  Both Kenny and I will be getting this game and play regularly, for a while.  Not sure about Evol yet.

@ Husker - as mentioned above, there will be a $20 standard version available.  That should be good enough to keep you busy for a while.

Trials games are easy to play and hard to master.  I probably put 50+ hours in the original and I never fully mastered it.  Some of the extreme tracks are still unbeaten.  The wide sweeping difficulty makes to very re-playable.  It's also a lot of fun with friends.  Win win.

Wait, is the MP online or just Co-op?  I just read somewhere that it's actually only local MP.

Looks like that may not be the case.

'Completely New Type of Multiplayer' Coming to Trials Fusion

Trials Fusion will not include head-to-head online multiplayer when it releases on April 16. Instead, "a completely new type of online multiplayer mode" will be added in as a free update soon afterwards.

"Local multiplayer will be part of Trials Fusionat launch, as we know our fans love that game mode: four buddies on one couch," Ilvessuo told IGN. "However, synchronous online multiplayer did not work as we would have hoped. We know by reviewing the metrics from Trials Evolution that the vast majority of players tried the mode, didn’t return to it and decided to focus their time on other parts of Trials. We even further polished that mode for the PC version, Trials Evolution: Gold Edition, but players still did not engage that feature and online multiplayer was less popular among all players.
"Incorporating a feature that we found wasn’t a great fit for players – just to say we did it, to hit a checkbox on a list – didn't seem right to us."

Interesting.  I just looked at the bullet points on RedLynx website:

  • Intuitive and addictive physics gameplay
  • Multiplayer
  • Skill games
  • Track Editor & Sharing
  • Leader Boards
  • Global Competition

Based off the above and my past experience I assumed online MP was a go.  I'll be interested to see what they launch in future updates.  That said, I should note that while 4-player online races were fun, beating your friends and racing against their ghost is where the fun is at.  This doesn't not change my desire to buy and play this game with friends.

I'm interested in it, looks like an updated version of Excite Bike, which was the sh*t.  However, if there isn't online MP I might pass on it for now.

Yea I got the standard version. The season pass was tempting but with play eso and now persona 4 I figured I wouldn't get that invested into it. But I love me some trials and I have not played one since trials hd so I'm pretty excited.

I played some last night and it was awesome.  I'll probably stream a little bit tonight if anyone wants to see it in action.  I'll also post up full thoughts on the game after I have spent a little time with it.

I may get this game either way tonight, but after watching this video I REALLY wish they had full online MP!  Could be some great fun just screwing around and having a good time.

We they said they were going to add some kind of MP down the road.  That is good enough for me.  The SP is amazing and we spent all night trying to beat each others times while sitting in a party chat.  It was great and frankly not unlike MP.  You get a time and a ghost(s) to race against.  So in a way, we played MP all night.  We had a blast.  Even kept me away from DS2.  Shocked

I'll probably hold off on this then until they add MP and see how it goes between now and then.  Especially with Last of Us and Watch Dogs just around the the corner, I need to save up for one and probably ask for the other for Father's Day.

Still unsure about whether or not I want to get ESO and pay for a sub.  I probably won't decide on that until everyone in the clan gets it and that's all you guys are talking about.  Of course, then I could be working on SP of BF4, Watch Dogs, and Last of Us so I'll probably be ok for a while.

I went ahead and just bought it for $20.  Doubt I'll bother with DLC's, etc., but I watched a couple different people on Twitch playing it and it was pretty hilarious how bad they were, and I'll suck even worse, lol.  For $20 might as well!

Anybody know if the upgrades for bikes actually do anything or are they purely aesthetic?

Thanks, figured as much.  I have to say that while there's really not much to this game that it was worth the $20 (even though I suck!).  Seems a bit easier than expected, although I haven't gotten to the "Hard" levels yet, still on Medium, but I've gold medaled in every map so far.  I'm going to go back and work on challenges later.

That is a lot of the fun of the game right there. Going back and making sure to gold medal every event etc...  You should start to see a difficulty spike pretty soon.  You will find it pretty hard to complete the "hard" tracks without a fault or two.  Fun, challenging and yet still doable.  Then you can expect about 100+ faults trying to finish an "expert" level track.  You have up to 500 faults or 30 mins to complete the track.  Whichever comes first.  Good luck with those!
