play as zombies in new DLC

Activision has officially confirmed the Revolution downloadable content for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Set to hit Xbox 360 on January 29th, Revolution will offer new maps and weapons as well as a new mode that allows players to take on the role of a Zombie.

While Revolution previously leaked via promotional images, Activision has now provided the first details on each of the new maps -- Downhill, Hydro, Mirage, Grind and Die Rise. Downhill is “set in the ski country of the French Alps, where players fight their way down the slopes and through a ski lodge, while avoiding the moving hazards of the mountain's gondola system.” Hydro takes place in a “hydroelectric dam facility in Pakistan, filled with treacherous spillways” and Mirage puts players in “a dilapidated luxury resort in the sandstorm-devastated Gobi Desert, where a range of long-distance and close-quarters combat will mix up the action for all play styles.”

Grind brings players to “California's Venice Beach, where they will battle it out through the ramps and half-pipes of this massive, epic skate park in a multiplayer environment comprised of unique curved architecture requiring players to adapt and learn new ways to take cover.” A new Zombies map called Die Rise is also included, set “inside a series of collapsed skyscrapers towering over the remains of an obliterated Chinese city.”


In addition to the new maps, Revolution will offer a new bonus multiplayer weapon, an SMG called the Peacekeeper, which will come along with new weapon challenges for additional XP. A new mode called Turned is also included, allowing players to “finally complete against each other as a zombie.”

As with all Call of Duty downloadable content, Revolution will be a timed exclusive on Xbox 360, usually for 30 days. Revolution will be available for $14.99 (1200 Microsoft Points), or free to anyone who purchased the Black Ops II Season Pass. Revolution will be the first of four packs offered to Season Pass holders.

I will instead purchase the map pack as a solo addition. I decided that I'm not willing to pull the trigger on the season pass. It may be great, or it may not... I'm not willing to pay $110 sight unseen for one video game ($60 game +$50 pass).
