Got it
So I decided to do the midnight thing, and picked up my copy of BO2 last night. I got to Game Stop about 20-15 minutes until 12, and was out at about 15-20 after. I rushed home (which is all of 3 miles away) slammed the disc in and started the install. After getting the game and Nuketown map installed I logged on and immediately went to the multiplayer. Got an invite from Knight Owl so I joined up with him, Rowdy, and the gang and we played several rounds of Team Deathmatch before I had to call it at 2 and hit the sack.
So far the game is a blast!
The pick 10 system is going to be really nice once I unlock more stuff to use. You unlock several items as you rank up, but you only get one token per level. So it is much like the leveling system in Halo 4 where you have access to quite a bit of stuff, but have to be careful on what you want to spend your token on early. I would guess that you will unlock access to everything fairly early in the ranks, but only be able to use everything once you get to the top ranks. Which normally is fine, but with the pick 10 system I want to try everything. I can already tell that 5 or even 10 custom classes are not going to be enough. And forget about building a custom class in between rounds. You might be able to add a silencer or switch types of grenades, but with all the options you are not going to be able to do much before the next round kicks in.
The maps we played were all fairly small, but they are extremely detailed. You can get in most every building, on top of roofs and fire escapes/catwalks. There are undergrounds and multiple routes to every side. The levels are all multi-tiered where you better be looking up into windows and on buildings every where you go. I don’t know how many games I played, somewhere around 6-8, but I only got to play 4 different maps that I can remember so other maps could be much different.
The point system is nice in that you have “point streaks” like in Homefront and you get “bonus” points in several different ways. Call in a UAV, and every kill your teammates get while the UAV is up and you get points building to the next point streak. Get assists or simply survive after having the red-screen-of-death and you net points. Stick a guy with a symtex or get a headshot = more points. So there are several ways to get points besides worrying solely on getting 3-5-7, etc kills in a row. I really like this, even better than banking the kills/captures like in MW3.
I haven’t got to play with many of the weapons yet, but in using the preset classes I did get to use the throwing axe and crossbow and they didn’t disappoint. The weapon customization looks intense, and while maybe not on par with the Ghost Recon system, it is much more than any other COD game before and with the pick 10 system you could go to the extreme with a very tricked out and customized weapon.
Like I mentioned before, so far I’m loving the game. It’s very fluid and fast, and has enough changes to feel like a significant upgrade to last years installment. I was sniped a few times last night but didn’t see any quick scopes, nor did I get killed by a noob tube (it’s early and that was a fairly late unlock as you unlock weapons attachments based on your gun rank and not character level). I’m really excited to play more and probably could have pulled an all-nighter, but that 6 a.m. wake-up time to get to work by 7 was looming already a 2 and I thought better of it.

Re: Got it
What makes the multiplayer feel new and exciting compared to previous releases of Call of Duty? I'm not being snide here, it's just that it's been a long time since I actually played Call of Duty and I might think about giving it another chance. That chance may not be for Black Ops 2 since Halo 4 will have my full attention, but maybe Call of Duty 23 or whatever the numbered Call of Duty is that will release next year.

Well, I think the core gameplay is still the same. So, if you don't like COD, you're not going to like this either. Same with Halo. If you don't like Halo, H4 is not going to change that. But at the same time the things they change will make it fresh and interesting to fans of the series. Things like the Pick 10 system for making a custom class.
Every element of your loadout – whether that’s a primary weapon, its attachment, a perk or even a grenade – takes up one of your ten available slots.
So the choices you need to make become about how to tailor your preferences within these ten slots. You may decide not to equip a grenade at all, in favour of an additional attachment for your primary weapon. Or, alternatively, you might not even want a primary weapon.
The choice is yours.
Basically everything you cary takes 1 slot. So a primary gun with 2 attachments = 3 slots out of 10. Add 3 perks and you are at 6 total. Add a secondary gun with 1 attachment and you are at 8. Then add a grenade and you are at 9 and so on... But the cool thing is that you can leave out the secondary gun and put those slots to use in other ways. Like adding a 3rd attachment to you primary. It's a very cool and clever way to let you fully customize your loadout.

Re: Got it
So, no one has touched on this yet... but how do the guns FEEL?
For instance: GRAW guns felt like they hit very hard. People died quickly, they made sounds when you hit something, etc.
COD: WaW guns felt like airsoft guns.
MW guns felt like a mix. They hit hard, especially with stopping power.
Where does Zombies 3 fall on that spectrum? Does it feel like Blops? Or is it more similar to older CoD ala CoD4.

Yea, I'm not sure on that one and it might be everyones own preference. To me they felt fine, but I don't know that I have hardly ever felt anything less. They do have the nice "hit" sound so you know when you are in fact hitting the enemy vs. missing him and hitting the background.
