Lag Compensation... Empty Lag Compensation...

Post by OneBadHuskerFan Mon Nov 14, 2011 1:44 pm

So, other than the fact that I'm not the worlds best player on this game, I've found that this whole "lag compensation" thing might be what is also giving me fits. I was in the habit of just respawning instantly and not really watching the kill-cam until recently. I've noticed that what I've seen from the kill-cam doesn't represent at all what I saw from my point of view. There have been countless times that I've unloaded on somebody only to have them seemingly put a bullet in my head and move along. As I've watched their point of view, it shows that I never even got a shot off, and that is frustrating me to no end. I honestly don't know how much more I really want to play online if the compensation thing is going to continue to be an issue.

You have to remember- in COD there is no time of flight or bullet drop. So if someone presses the button, you are registered as hit/dead. The game must then show the animation, so in the time for the animation to complete means nothing, you were already dead. This used to be really bad in MW2 with the Commando Pro knife lunge. People would complain, "I put 3 bullets in him before he got to me" when in all reality once the button was pressed the game registered you as dead before the animation for completing the lunge was complete or those shots you put in his chest.

I experience and b1tch about this all day. Yet after 6 freakin\' games Infinity Ward cant fix this. The hit detection in the original COD is better than MW3

No- that's just the way the kill cam works. It will really tick you off if you watch it too much. If you are noticing it in the game all the time, then there might be another problem.

I am noticing it in the game a LOT, which is why I decided to start watching the kill-cam more. I'm constantly getting dropped even though I get plenty of shots off first, and I know my aim isn't THAT bad, lol.

My connection is fine. This "lag compensation", from reading the forums, is actually a bad thing for people that have good connections. People are actually doing things to cause there connections to look worse than they really are to take advantage of this. I should bring my xbox up to work over the weekend or something and use the crappy connection we have here and see if there is any difference in gameplay.

Yeah, this kind of crap is annoying, but ultimately if you're able to put yourself in situations where you can kill someone and they can't get to you, you can avoid this whole situation.

I tested to a connection in New Jersey which is approx. 1500 miles away and my speed was:

64ms
15.46 Down
1.88 Up

After another night of the same thing I'm thinking about just putting this game in the sleeve and sending it back to gamefly and start playing some Gears of War which has been sitting here for a few days.

Idk what was going on last night but I couldn't get in to any games, my box kept bogging down or locking up when trying to play MP. I thought it might be my connection or something but I was playing BF3 and Gears for a couple hours before and after trying MW3 and I had no issues.

this game has had a few "quirky" issues I've noticed while in the lobby w/ lag. That said, I wouldnt blame any of my deaths on it thus far.
