Somehow never played the first. I'll check out the demo and probably grab the first game on Steam if I like it.

Re: dragon age 2 demo
I liked the demo. Did Dragon Age I play like that, as I thought it was turn based?

Yes and no. DA1 was "real time" but not nearly as fluid. Some actions felt turn based. DA2 seems to have made some big improvements. The fighting is much smoother, the animations are much improved and the game is just more streamlined. You can basically play it like a hack and slash but it's still very deep for those looking to micro-manage their party members. The speech wheel was brought over from ME which is a huge improvement and helps the flow and overall feel of the game.
I was not a fan of DA1 but after playing the demo, I am really looking forward to this.

Re: dragon age 2 demo
I have played the shitoutta Dragon Age Origins and Awakening and will no doubt buy DA2, but after playing the demo I am less excited. The speech wheel is cool, but now instead of setting my character to auto attack so it swings as often as possible I know have to pound the A button to maximize my swings per minute. Maybe it will make some players feel more involved like it is more real time, but seems like a hassle to me. All the skills were organized different for leveling but had the same names and effects - I was disappointed with the lack of new content there so far.
Maybe the full game will be better, but from what I saw of the demo it is just Dragon Age Origins with a facelift and a lot more button mashing. Oh well, I'll still preorder.

@ Coolhand - I'll have to check but it seem like there is a lot of customization available. Ton's of "If/Then" settings to manage your party etc... Are you sure the setting your looking for isn't there?

Re: dragon age 2 demo
If there's a way to keep from having to press A every time I want to swing my sword that would be great. I didn't mean to blast this game - like I said I'm a fan and will buy it, and there wasn't really much lacking on the spell side of things so not sure where they could go with that. All in all it looks great, I just wanted to see more improvements than a speech wheel.

Re: dragon age 2 demo
Is DA very "open world" or is it constrained to set paths like the demo for DA2?

Re: dragon age 2 demo
A little of both. There were some big areas to explore but they were still limited. You could reach the edge of an area and it would bring up the world map. You would choose the location and it would load the next area. So you had to load each area, town or location. You couldn't just walk everywhere like Oblivion or Fallout.
