Network Question Empty Network Question

Someone verify my thinking or tell me where I am going wrong. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I don't profess to be the network wizard so someone back me up. I can reliably ping my modem and my router on my network and have no packet loss. If I attempt to ping outside sites I start getting packet loss up to 100% in some cases. This in my mind indicates a problem outside of my network on the isp side, Am I incorrect? Please let me know. If the above logic is not sound what can I do to give me some peace of mind as to where the problem is. Thanks

For reference; I work at an ISP soo...
Go test at the NID. It's the little box outside your house where the phone cables come in. Just unplug your phone line, and put the modem in there and trying pinging outside. If you get no loss, it's wiring inside your house.

The real breakdown is if it's something wrong in your house, not your ISP's deal. If it's outside the house then either the ISP or Telco have to fix it.

Couple things I have cable not dsl but I suppose the theory is still the same I have a box on the side of the house and could run a power cord outside...I also pay a "wire maintenance fee" so even if it's in the house they gotta fix it lol.

Well then it sounds like the issue could be the modem itself or... anything beyond it... wiring or cable company equipment...

Yeah, same basic ideas with cable. And Glock is right, it could be the modem. Most ISPs will have you swap the modem out right away just because it's a common easy fix.

i trade out my modem about every 6months because it fives out so wont hurt to try and it should be free

Yup so either an inside wiring issue or something outside. Test at the NID, that's the easiest way to tell. It'll also probably save you about 2 weeks of BS from them waiting to get a truck out.

I'm honestly 99% convinced it's them I just don't like placing blame unless it's due. The tech also let it slip that he was seeing a bunch of signal variance and they had recently fixed someone else's equipment in the area. He also suspected their fix was likely the cause of my issues, I've had a solid connection for almost two years up until the last few weeks.

Yeah I have told them such and the only problem is they work Monday-Saturday 9-5. The only day I can set around waiting on the ass clowns is Saturday and let me tell you the sharpest tools in the shed ARE not found working weekends.

try replacing the splitter at the NID if one exsists and see if that helps, its either that or a problem at the TAP or within the node itself <----works for Comcast (unfortunately), if its at the tap or within the node it will end being sent to maintenance to repair
