Honestly, as long as you have good air flow and ventilation either should be fine. However, I've heard that laying it down is better for the disk reader, but I dunno how true that is.

I have mine at a precise 32.66 degree angle.

That's only so you can balance it with that awkward share and angle of your head.

I think laying it down is safer but if you have the room to stand it up and don't think you will knock it over ever then you may get better ventalation that way especially with the new xbox slim.

Re: Stand up or lay down?
Well, I remember one episode of "Major Hooyah" (nelson) that said laying it down was better. He mentioned that eventhough the unit is made for either there were reports of disk scratches on the stand-up units.
Now take into consideration this was the older model xbox back when the whole RROD was happening frequently and MS was trying to prevent all the problems they could. That said, I don't think it matters much. For safety lay it down if you have rowdy roommates, etc.

Re: Stand up or lay down?
Sticky... classic answer - too bad you were serious!
Mine was laying down inside a cabinet for months - had tons of disk read errors. Took it out and stood it up - no more problems... until someone knocked it over while it was running. That change in position while a disk is spinning in a pre-fixed box causes the laser lens to get scratched. MS fixed it free though and haven't had anymore problems.
As long as it stays cool, it doesn't really matter what position you keep it in. Just don't change it while it is running!
I know what you mean, but if I lay mine flat it becomes the favorite place for a cat to sit.S7 Panzer wrote:Mine is sitting down so my focken cat won't smack it off my dresser.
