‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Cast Revealed

The Force has been released.

John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill,Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in “Star Wars: Episode VII.”

Disney and Lucasfilm made the announcement Tuesday.

The plan is for a May 2014 start date so while a deadline wasn’t looming given how long the shoot was expected decisions needed to be made in case scheduling conflicts were to occur.

In a recent earnings called, Disney chief Bob Iger said this latest installment will be set 30 years after 1983′s “Return of the Jedi” and will feature new and familiar faces.

Abrams and his producing partner Bryan Burk are producing through theirBad Robot banner with Kathleen Kennedy exec producing for Lucasfilm. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan did a recent rewrite to the script.

Interesting, as I haven't read the books based around the original story I wonder how they will do this movie.

Well, apparently, all expanded universe stuff is completely renounced.  All games, books etc... never happened so you are probably OK having not read the books.  Going forward, all expanded universe stuff will be more tightly controlled and considered cannon.  This is also why they likely canned ALL on-going SW projects after the merger.

Where did they say they renounced all expanded universe content? I don't doubt you, I just hadn't seen that yet.

OK, so I may have been a little off but here is the break down.  All post-Return of the Jedi EU is up in the air.  No one is beholden to it and NONE of it is considered cannon.  Official cannon are the 6 movies and Clone Wars cartoon.  Everythinhg moving forward will be interconnected and concidered official cannon.  This includes books, comics, games, movies and more.  All other EU stuff may or may not be used as they see fit moving forward.

So basically, all EU stuff is sort of disowned.  Or at least not officially cannon.

Ahh, makes sense. Can't read the article at work but I will. I suppose that makes sense with new movies coming out. Kind of how Star Trek was like "Oh time travel none of the cannon applies anymore!" Opens up the potential movies a lot.

I like Abrams. Every time I see BAD ROBOT I know I am going to get a good show.

Yeah, being beholden to the EU ties you hands moving forward.  I think it's for the best and I like how they want to interconnect everything moving forward.  Should make for a good experience.

But the Heir to the Empire stuff is amazing. If it wasn't for that, the continues EU would have been nothing but kid stuff for merchandizing. Then again, this is Disney now...

I would still like to see a high dollar animated production of Heir to the Empire with the original actors voices. You could even use Mark Hammil's voice talents for Thrawn too. Now that would be epic!

They are planning on making mass effect movies?  

Abrahms will destroy Tatooine in the past and Luke was never born, but it's OK because it's an alternate universe.

Really though I hear the new movies are not based on any EU novels, but Zhan was briefed by Lucas on the story treatments so characters like Mara Jade and Thrawn were probably not pulled out of thin air.

True they will not be based on any eu but I will put money in it that there will be plenty of eu stuff pulled and put into the movie. Should be good to get the starwars movies back on track if they do it right. With Lucas on board and I think these should be great.

@panzer: I haven't seen or heard anything about mass effect movies but they would be better then the star wars movies if done right

Um, this is all true!

Though I understand the reason for ignoring all post-jedi canon, I'm a bit saddened that the 50 plus books I've read never happened.

That dark haired long faced guy looks like Thrawn to me.  Could he be the Chiss Grand Admiral?  I think Lando will reappear in episode 8.  I expect we will see Mara Jade at some point.   She was a good character.

He's probably Lando's love child. Drama with Hans children ya know.

Not the black dude.  The horse faced guy Adam Driver could totally be Thrawn.
Daisy Ridley could me Mara Jade but she's way too you for Hamill.
I hope they don't make Boyega related to Lando.  Or that Naboo security guy.  Maybe Mace Windu, but that would still be cheesy.  That galaxy needs more women and diverse skin tones.
